Summary This position is located at the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital, Hines, IL, a Level 1a Complexity VHA Facility and is organizationally aligned to the Environmental Management Service - Motor Pool/Grounds Section. The work includes the operation of gasoline, diesel, or electronic powered wheeled vehicles to haul cargo and fuel, transport passengers, or to tow or recover equipment. The position functions and duties also include facility grounds maintenance Responsibilities Major Duties Performing operator maintenance, such as checking fluid levels, replacing air filters and interior lights, checking tire pressure and hose connections and washing vehicle. Operating wheeled vehicles, wheel-mounted tractors; or engineering and construction equipment with wheeled or crawler-@type traction. Operating passenger buses or passenger ambulance buses regardless of gross vehicle weight. Driving vehicles in restricted traffic environments on government installations, over public roads and highways, or under cross-country conditions. Hauling cargo and fuel, transporting passengers, or tow/recover equipment. Operating platform, van, stake and dump trucks, fuel trucks, and trash removal trucks which have a gross vehicle weight of 26,000 pounds up to 32,000 pounds. All vehicles are equipped with air brakes. Vehicles are operated over uneven terrain, over improved/unimproved roads and through congested areas on both short and long hauls. Performing other related duties. The incumbent must possess and maintain a valid State of Illinois Commercial Driver's License (CDL-Class B) with passenger endorsement, permitting operation of vehicles with Gross Vehicle Weight Ratings (GVWR) up to 32,000 pounds including large patient transport buses at all times. Must successfully complete Basic Life Support (BLS) Training in accordance with facility policy for Motor Vehicle Operators permitting patient transport. Work Schedule: Full-Time, shift schedule varies depending on the needs of the service, and may include working on off-tours, holidays, weekends, evenings, rotating shifts or regular overtime may be required.
