Job Summary:
Brooks Construction Company, Inc. is hiring for two separate positions within our Asphalt Department: a Distributor (Tack) Truck Driver and a Construction Laborer/Water Truck Driver. Candidates will be hired into one role or the other, and employees are not expected to perform both jobs.
Both positions utilize a Class A CDL and perform general laborer duties on paving crews in a safe, efficient, and proper manner to achieve a quality finished product. Employees in either role spend approximately 10% of their time operating a commercial motor vehicle and 90% of their time performing field crew work.
Essential Job Functions (*=Non-essential tasks):
Distributor Truck Driver
Operates a distributor truck to spray tack coat evenly over roadbeds, existing asphalt, or base layers
Controls truck functions such as heating liquid materials, regulating pressure, adjusting spray nozzles, and monitoring application
Performs physical labor including shoveling, raking, luting, lifting, and moving equipment
Performs traffic control (flagging) duties as required
Places and picks up traffic control materials (cones, barrels, etc.) as needed
Completes daily pre- and post-trip inspection checklists
Maintains all safety standards
Water Truck Driver
Operates an asphalt water wagon, flatbed, and/or flatbed with trailer
Transports heavy equipment or necessary materials to and from job sites
Loads, unloads, and cleans equipment and materials as directed
Performs physical labor including shoveling, raking, luting, lifting, and moving equipment
Performs traffic control (flagging) duties as required
Places and picks up traffic control materials (cones, barrels, etc.) as needed
Completes daily pre- and post-trip inspection checklists
Maintains all safety standards
Required Skills and Abilities:
Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and long hours/extensive overtime (often with little or no notice)
Reliable transportation with the ability and willingness to travel to and from job sites (up to a 90-mile radius depending on assignment, at the employee's expense)
Willingness to abide by Brooks Construction's Drug-Free & Alcohol-Free Workplace policies
Ability to work outdoors in all seasons and weather conditions (including rain, snow, extreme heat or cold, water, mud, dust, etc.)
Exceptional attendance, punctuality, dependability, reliability, and work ethic
Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
Ability to learn procedures quickly
Ability to work as part of a team and independently without continuous supervision
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED
Must have or be willing & able to get and maintain a valid Class A CDL driver's license
Manual transmission CDL capability required
Tanker Endorsement on license or ability to add this endorsement post-offer
Hazmat Endorsement on license or ability to add this endorsement post-offer
Previous hands-on construction experience is preferred, with some knowledge of heavy highway work.
Member of or willing to join local Laborers and Teamsters Unions.
Physical Requirements
Lifting/Carrying: Up to 50 lbs. frequently
Pushing/Pulling: Up to 50 lbs. frequently
Movement Requirements: Frequent standing, walking, bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, and occasionally reaching above shoulder level, climbing and crawling
Use of Hands: Frequent use of hands for grasping and handling materials
Working Environment:
Individual will be working in a field environment.
Individual will be working with internal customers (Foremen, Superintendents, Safety).
