rAssistant/Associate/Professor - Outpatient Geriatric Psychiatrist

The Robert Larner, MD, College of Medicine at the University of Vermont and University of Vermont Health are seeking a full-time faculty geriatric psychiatrist at the Assistant/Associate/Professor level on the clinical scholar pathway to join an enthusiastic team of professionals in neurology, geriatrics, and psychiatry at The University of Vermont Medical Center (UVMMC). This 400-bed university-based general hospital includes a 28-bed state-of-the-art adult psychiatry inpatient unit and an outpatient geriatric psychiatry clinic located at University Health Center. UVMMC is also home to the Memory Program which hosts a team of neuropsychologists, advanced practice nurses, and neurologists dedicated to the treatment of disorders of aging. The University of Vermont is home to the Center on Aging, an interdisciplinary and collaborative hub for research, education, policy, and research and the Division of Geriatric Medicine within the Department of Internal Medicine. UVMMC is the principal teaching site for residents, fellows and medical students at The Robert Larner, MD, College of Medicine. Training in the care of aging adults is performed in an interdisciplinary fashion as a collaboration among Psychiatry, Neurology, and Geriatrics.

The successful candidate will be a geriatric psychiatrist whose main clinical focus will be to lead outpatient geriatric psychiatry consultations and longitudinal care in the outpatient setting. Additional opportunities including expansion of telehealth services, collaborating with colleagues in geriatric medicine, and neuromodulation are available if desired. Dedicated research time within our clinical neurosciences research unit or with our world-class substance use disorders, trauma disorders, or suicide care teams is also available for the qualified applicant. The geriatric psychiatry clinic is the primary teaching site for medical students, residents, nurse practitioner/physician assistant students and other learners.

The selected candidate will demonstrate the training and expertise in geriatric psychiatry to coordinate direct patient care, collaborate with other professional disciplines, and supervise the teaching of house officers, medical students, and other staff. An appreciation of the importance of and satisfaction from performing these critical functions and an ability to work collaboratively

are essential. An active program in geriatric research is preferred but not required. Applicants must have a medical degree and be board certified or board eligible in Psychiatry. Board eligibility or certification in Geriatric Psychiatry is preferred, but subspecialty training in consultation-liaison or neuropsychiatry with substantial experience in Geriatric Psychiatry would also be considered.
