Job Title: Camp Nurse
FLSA Status: Temporary - Full Time - non-exemptReports to: Camp Director
Supervises: Camp Nurse Assistant
Rate of Pay: $1,200/ weekly

Benefits: Temporary Full-Time, Non-Exempt employees are eligible for but not limited to the following:
Sick leave benefit - 1 day per month, 12 sick days per year (accrual and availability begins at hire; sick time accrual is pro-rated for part-time hours.)
GENERAL DUTIES:
· Maintain a standard of cleanliness in personal grooming and in living quarters.
· Assist with the clean-up of the total camp at the end of each session and at the conclusion of the summer.
· Prepare and deliver the Camp Nurse camp brief at the end of the summer.
· Attend and participate in Staff Orientation.
· When able, attend and participate in all camp wide activities, campfires, staff meetings and staff devotions
· Assist with Camper check-in and check-out.
o Specifically, the health assessment at check in and camper medication distribution on the last day.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Safety and Supervision
· Enforce, and abide by, all camp policies and procedures
· Responsible for the health and well-being of self and campers.
· Always maintain the utmost level of safety for staff and campers
· Practice and enforce all camp safety regulations and emergency procedures.
o Maintain group/staff control at specialized group activities so that other support staff can focus on safety.
· Always ensure compliance with American Camping Association standards of safety and programmatic conduct.
· Maintain good records of treatment, medication distribution, and other tasks.
· Attend relevant in-service trainings.
Weekly Responsibilities
· Plan and carry out a total health and safety program for the camp staff according to High Peak Camp health protocols.
· Guide Cabin Leaders in their responsibilities for their camper's health.
· Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for campers and staff.
o These duties are performed in accordance with Physicians standing orders and within The Salvation Army, ACA, and CCI policies, procedures, and standards of performance.
· Either by phone, or in person, during the week of Staff Orientation meet with the local physician who most recently reviewed and sign the standing orders to better understand them.
· Communicate information effectively and accurately to facilitate continuity of care.
· Maintain accountability for nursing judgements and actions.
· Make appropriate decisions that reflect knowledge and good judgement.
· Recognize and demonstrate an awareness of legal responsibility and limitations by functioning within the scope of HPC including, but not limited to:
o Keeping a daily log of all camper and staff treatment.
o Utilizing aseptic technique.
o Recognizing the existence of an infection process.
o Using equipment and supplies in a safe, legal, and economic manner.
o Collecting and filing all camper medical files.
o Compiling a brief at the end of the summer season.
· Complete and file the health log as specified on the front cover within a reasonable time. Each camper that visits the infirmary should be entered into the log, with the following:
o A description of the injury or illness.
o The campers of staff's cabin, age, and time of visit.
o Indicate treatment given and initial in the columns indicated.
· Log staff members who visit in the same fashion as the campers, using red ink for easy identification in case of a workman's compensation claim.
· Educate the registration staff regarding lice check procedures, which will be used during camper registration at the beginning of each week.
· Responsible for the medical screening of all campers during the camper registration process, which include logging all medication(s) for each camper, dosage and dispense frequency, log the allergies, infections, medications, and any unusual health history of each camper.
· Administer all medications and treatments according to the physician's orders.
· If a child is prescribed any mood or behavior altering medication, it is your responsibility to make the Cabin Leader aware of the situation.
· All medications, prescriptions, non-prescriptions, aspirin, vitamins, etc. will be kept in the infirmary for appropriate dispensing times. The camper may keep aerosol inhalers with the Cabin Leader's notification.
· If any medications are listed by a physician, but not in the possession of the camper, the parent must be contacted and fax a note from the family doctor that the medication has either been discontinued or not needed for the week. If this note cannot be obtained, the camper will be sent home.
· Strict cleanliness and sanitation in the infirmary must be maintained at all times. Infirmary beds linens should be changed daily when in use. Infirmary showers/bathrooms should be cleaned and sanitized weekly when not in use and daily when in use.
· Inform the Assistant Direct and Director of all unusual medical events.
· Hold office hours before and after ever meal and for 30 minutes before bedtime.
· Keep an organized inventory of all necessary medical supplies.
· Stock and supply First Aid Kits for cabins and hikes.
· Prepare a finalized inventory of medical supplies at the end of the summer.
· Perform all other duties and roles assigned.
o Due to the nature of the camp program in session, you may be asked to assist in duties not related to this specific job description. This is for the smooth operation of the camp. Staff members are expected to comply with all reasonable requests.

Qualification and Education Requirements:
· 21+ years of age preferred.
· Current Nursing License (RN, CPN, CPA, CAN) and if from another state, the license has reciprocity in the state of Colorado.
· Ability to use effective communication and personal skills.
· Ability to provide supervision and guidance to both staff and campers.
· Ability to exercise confidentiality and a professor manner.
· Ability to keep accurate records and logs.
· Maintain a high standard of personal and communal living and behaviors.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull, and reach overhead. Ability to operate telephone. Ability to lift to 25 pounds. Ability to access and produce information from the computer. Ability to understand written information. Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
