Job Summary:

JOB SUMMARY

The Genetic Assistant serves as assistant to Clinical Geneticists, and Cancer Genetic Counselors and is responsible for the collection of patient information prior to the genetic counseling appointment, data entry appointment, data entry of intake information, coordination of patient care and facilitation of genetic testing requisitions with outside laboratories when appropriate.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Obtain a family history by phone and constructing detailed information and genetic history. Scan into health records in timely manner Prepare patient charts with completed risk assessment and other pertinent forms and records. Request and collect outside medical records and communicate information to provider as needed. Provide on-site support for sample packaging at clinical sites, and package specimen collection kits Complete test requisition forms for genetic testing Monitor and triage incoming dedicated genetics communications including emails, faxes, voicemails, and message baskets as appropriate. Monitor provider schedules to plan and prioritize sample collection and send outs. Assist in scheduling, re-scheduling, and cancelling new and existing patient appointments. Assist others in prioritizing appointment requests on urgent and non-urgent basis Ensure timely collection of billing sheets with appropriate ICD-10 codes for every patient and fax to a billing/coding office Maintain stock of important forms (test forms, fact sheets, signature forms, etc.) needed for the genetic counselors to bring to clinic
