Summary The Post Baccalaureate Registered Nurse Residency (PBRNR) and Registered Nurse Transition to Practice (RNTTP) Program Director, at San Francisco VA Health Care System (SFVAHCS), is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care. The position is assigned to Nursing Service and is located at the San Francisco VA Medical Center in San Francisco, CA. Responsibilities he Program Director (PD) demonstrates leadership at the program level, including functions such as program development and implementation and the ability to delegate appropriately. The incumbent successfully performs activities appropriate to their grade as outlined in the Nurse Qualification Standards. The Nurse Qualification Standards identify the educational, experiential and competency requirements for the Registered Nurse-Program Director role at each grade. The PBNR and RNTTP Residency Program Director is responsible for: Program development and implementation. Overall planning and implementation, of the PBNR and RNTTP program to include: Establishing a 12-month program curriculum that is centered in management and delivery of quality and equitable care, professional role, and leadership development based on the CCNE Accreditation Standards as amended in 2015. Collaborating with the Nurse Managers, Nurse Educators, CNS, CNL, and preceptors on program development. Determining the PBNR and RNTTP start date in collaboration with nursing leadership. Facilitating the selection of PBNR and RNTTP residents in collaboration with nursing leadership. Program Management and Oversight: Coordinating instructors/facilitators and classroom for learning sessions, and confirmation/communication of dates/times Ensuring the program curriculum reflects the evidence-based practice that identifies expected learning outcomes. Facilitating the identification and selection of a mentor and supporting the mentee/mentor relationship. Directing, coordinating, and providing programmatic guidance for the new RNs preceptors, and other RNTTP & PBNR Program team members. Communicating any concerns/issues that may arise to appropriate program stakeholders. Working with the Nurse Recruiter and Human Resources to ensure proper coding of the residents. Participating in monthly ONS & OAA updates/education calls. Coordinating a graduation or recognition ceremony at completion of the RNTTP and PBNR Residency Programs. Program Evaluation: Determining and implementing a process to demonstrate program effectiveness and stakeholder's satisfaction. Ensuring the completion of evaluation forms from RNs residents and preceptors, and others as appropriate. Providing the annual report by the end of the FY summarizing the data collected, program results, and any recommended program changes to the Associate Director for Patient Care Services. Completing ONS and OAA reports and data requests by the deadlines set. Clinical Responsibilities: Provide a full-range of clinical support with the SFVAHCS PBNR and RNTTP residents. Collaborates with the Nurse Manager and ensuring that each RN resident is assigned to a preceptor. Ensure that SFVAHCS unit staffing methodology business plans incorporate the recommended protected FTEE time for the residents to fully participate in the PBNR and RNTTP Residency Program activities. Ensuring the RN resident and the preceptor have adequate time to participate in and successfully complete the program. The unit time schedule for the resident and preceptor reflects the protected time. Collaborates with the Nurse Educator/CNS/CNL at SFVAHCS to ensure the preceptor and mentor supports the resident's professional development throughout the program. Ensuring a primary and secondary preceptor, overseeing the daily progress of the resident and evaluating performance of the resident. Qualifications Basic Requirements: English Language Proficiency. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program. Upon achievement of a State license, the individual may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6); OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing to warrant an appointment as a Nurse who has completed an associated degree/entry level Nursing education program. Credit for foreign nursing education higher that associate degree/entry level requires a formal degree equivalency validation from a recognized equivalency evaluation accepted by VA such as International Consultants of Delaware (ICD). Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. An ADN or Diploma in Nursing AND 2 years of professional nursing experience in which one year is equivalent to Nurse I, Level 2; OR a BSN and 1 year of professional nursing experience equivalent to the Nurse I, Level 2; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) and no additional professional nursing experience; OR a Master's degree in a related field with a BSN and no additional professional nursing experience. Nurse II Demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others.
