Description & Requirements
BloombergNEF (BNEF) is a strategic research provider covering global commodity markets and the disruptive technologies driving the transition to a low-carbon economy. We help our clients gain a clear perspective on the trends in technology, finance, policy and economics that are driving transformation across the energy value chain. Our expert coverage assesses pathways for the power, transport, industry, buildings and agriculture sectors to adapt to the energy transition. We help commodity trading, corporate strategy, finance and policy professionals navigate change and generate opportunities. BNEF has 250 staff based in 19 offices across the globe.
To succeed at BNEF we need people who can work in an independent manner and show initiative to develop their own viewpoints, yet be collaborative with colleagues. We don't rely on the status quo, we look for innovative yet pragmatic thinking that turns big ideas into real insights and impact. Working at BNEF sometimes feels chaotic; we need teams that are both dynamic and structured to generate the unique perspectives our clients really value. Our teams are diverse, creative, focused, and fun!
We are seeking a talented, highly motivated individual to join our Finance and Investment research team as an analyst based in New York to contribute to our coverage on energy transition financing activities. Financing through debt, equity and innovative instruments are critical to enable the energy transition. Yet the financial sector is struggling to channel enough capital, and many institutions are reassessing their net-zero commitments and activities. Identifying opportunities and finding the right financing channel will be the key to upscale climate finance. You will be responsible for undertaking primary research and analysis on energy transition financing activities, including identifying drivers and challenges of financing flows, and sellside institutions' climate actions and initiatives. Together with the Finance and Investment team, you will provide thought leadership on the role of the financial sector in facilitating the transition.
We'll trust you to:
Research, analyze and produce reports, with a focus on the financing opportunities and challenges in the energy transition
Develop and implement market-leading insights, including datasets, scenarios and tools
Demonstrate excellent qualitative and quantitative skills, present and work with data effectively, conduct data analysis using the Bloomberg Terminal
Write clearly and concisely, and make your insights understandable and relevant to a wide range of clients
Deliver presentations, share your research at industry events, and clearly communicate insights to clients and prospects
Build a reputation in industry for your insights and analysis, and provide thought leadership on the role of the financial sector in facilitating the transition
Balance multiple parallel tasks, be highly organized and have rigorous attention to detail
Collaborate with integrity and drive with colleagues and clients from different cultures and countries
You'll need to have:
Strong knowledge or demonstrated interest in energy transition and the finance industry
A bachelor's or master's degree or equivalent experience in a related field such as finance, economics, business, engineering or humanities field
Confidence and accuracy conducting quantitative analysis and working effectively with data
Excellent communication skills in English: writing, reading, and speaking
Rigorous attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality work
We'd love to see:
Work experience (2-5 years) in banking, investment or energy industries
Experience in using the Bloomberg Terminal
Experience with data projects, querying and working with large databases (e.g. SQL, Python), and visualizing (e.g. PowerBI)
