Overview
About us:
Founded in 1990, LS Power is a premier development, investment, and operating company focused on the North American power and energy infrastructure sector, with leading platforms across generation, transmission and energy expansion solutions. Since inception, LS Power has developed or acquired 50,000 MW of power generation, including utility-scale solar, wind, hydro, battery energy storage, and natural gas-fired facilities. Through its transmission business, LS Power Grid, the company built and operates 780+ miles of high-voltage transmission and 7 transmission utilities and has another 375+ miles currently in construction or development. LS Power actively invests in and scales businesses that are meeting the growing needs of the energy expansion, including electric vehicle charging, demand response, microgrids, renewable fuels and waste-to-energy platforms. Over the years, LS Power has raised more than $76 billion in debt and equity capital to support North American infrastructure.

About the Role:
LS Power is seeking an Engineering Manager, Mechanical (Process) to join System Integration Engineering as a part of our San Diego, CA-based team. Remote candidates will be considered, with the expectation of periodic travel to the San Diego office for in-person collaboration. This role is responsible for overseeing the integration and engineering of mechanical and thermal process systems for projects that include gas-fired, carbon capture, sequestration and storage (CCS), flexible co-located, and renewable energy facilities. These projects may also be connected to digital infrastructure like hyperscale data centers, and the position covers all stages from conceptual design through to development and execution. The role will provide technical support to project development teams for thermal generation systems, CO2 compression and pipeline transport, electrical interconnection, and multi-technology integration. Along with systems integration engineering activities, additional responsibilities include technology selection, site evaluation, conceptual design, planning, scheduling, cost estimating, due diligence, status reporting, and overseeing external vendors and contractors, such as original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) engineering and consulting firms.
Responsibilities
What you will do:
OEM, Vendor & Consultant Interface
Interface directly with OEMs and equipment vendors to evaluate technological options, technical parameters, scope of supply, performance guarantees, operational flexibility, O&M philosophies and future upgrade pathways
Establish OEM and BOP equipment technical and commercial overview for project development options
Review and provide technical oversight of process and mechanical engineering deliverables prepared by external consultants ensuring consistency with system integration objectives
Lead definition of process and mechanical scope for owner's engineering studies
Provide inputs to plant cost estimates, plant schedules, and installation assessments from engineering and project development perspectiv
Process & Mechanical System Integration
Serve as the process and mechanical systems lead within the System Integration Engineering team
Evaluate, integrate, and develop system configurations for power generation, including gas turbine cycles, combined cycles, heat recovery processes, and mechanical balance-of-plant, onsite fuel supply integration
Develop overall process configurations, operating modes, and design concepts, including hybrid and flexible operating scenarios such as combined cycle plus storage or peaking assets paired with digital infrastructure
Perform system-level process and mechanical analyses to support feasibility studies, concept selection, and development decision gates
Develop and review heat and mass balances, process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), performance assumptions, emissions controls, and equipment sizing inputs
Assesses impacts of process design decisions on efficiency, operability, reliability, maintainability, cost, and schedule, and develop mitigation strategies early in the project lifecycle
Support process and mechanical-electrical system integration at a conceptual level, including auxiliary power requirements and system interfaces
Contribute to development of mechanical design standards, assumptions, and tools to support repeatable project development
Support process and mechanical-electrical system integration, instrumentation and controls, instrumentation layouts and coordinate with Electrical Engineering to ensure alignment of process assumptions and electrical system impacts including auxiliary loads, startup sequences, control interfaces, and system boundaries
Project Development Milestones
Support technical documentation for investment approvals, due diligence, permitting interfaces, and transition to EPC execution
Understand, track, and support project development engineering milestones
Lead process and mechanical engineering handoff to the Project Delivery team, ensuring process design intent, key assumptions and constraints, identified risks and mitigations, performance and operability criteria
Provide early execution support as projects transition into EPC delivery
