Summary The Dietitian Supervisor will be responsible for the MOVE! program. The incumbent will provide program-specific guidance while leading a multidisciplinary team. Administering all aspects of the local initiative to support the health and well-being of the Veteran population and the employees who care for them. The Dietitian Supervisor will be responsible for the execution of clinical nutrition programming within the facility, community-based clinics, and the local community. Responsibilities This Supervisory Dietitian (MOVE Coordinator), oversees the clinical nutrition section of Nutrition and Food Service providing administrative and technical supervision over staff which includes Clinical Dietitians at the GS-11 level and below and Clinical Dietetic Technicians. The Supervisory Dietitian is responsible for the execution of clinical nutrition programming within the facility, community-based clinics, and the local community. They provide administrative management and direction of the Clinical Nutrition Section and ensures proper coordination between the delivery of clinical nutrition services and the overall delivery of health care. Supervisory Dietitians ensure evidence-based guidelines are integrated into clinical practice and collaborate closely with the Supervisory Dietitian (Food operations) to enhance the Veteran's dining experience and to support the strategic goals of the food operations section. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Manages all aspects of the program for the facility, assuring local compliance with national policy and direction. Coordinates with the multidisciplinary team to develop local goals. Measures progress toward the goals and reports to the appropriate officials at a local, VISN and national level. Provides direct patient care by developing and implementing comprehensive nutrition therapy, practicing within their scope/clinical privileges. Serves as the professional and technical advisor for their program. Promotes and maintains effective working relationships with all faculty and significant parties at the national, state, and local level. Directs or participates in the design of studies, collects data, conducts statistical analysis, interprets findings, and translates results into written and oral communications. Sets priorities, delegates tasks, meets multiple deadlines, analyzes organizational problems, and develops and implements effective solutions. Serves as a consultant and technical advisor within NFS and with other facility health care staff in evaluating health care delivery to Veterans and employees. Determines the continuing education needs of program staff and appropriate resources to meet those needs. Oversees all aspects for the program, policy, and procedure development. Oversees development and maintenance of training and reference materials. Establishes and manages program goals and objectives. Plans and administers a program, coordinates associated activities and resources, evaluates program accomplishments, redefines priorities, problem solves, and modifies objectives. Takes an active role in the fiscal management for the program, identifying resource needs that may include staffing, supplies, contracts, etc. Maintains program information through approved social media outlets. May perform other related duties as assigned which are appropriate for this grade and assignment. Qualifications Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or Registered Dietitian (RD) - Must be registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) the credentialing branch of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics formerly known as the American Dietetic Association (ADA). English Language Proficiency. Dietitian candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with 38 U.S.C. § 7403 (f). Education. Applicants who hold the RDN credential have met the education requirement (e.g. bachelor's degree or higher) of CDR, as such this occupation is considered professional and scientific with a positive education requirement. Foreign Education. To be creditable, college and/or university degrees earned outside the U.S and its territories must be evaluated by ACEND and meet ACEND's International Dietitian Education standards which are designed to provide graduates with the knowledge and competencies to sit for the CDR credentialing exam. Grandfathering Provision. Current VHA Dietitians that qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision may not be promoted to a higher grade if they do not meet the current RDN/RD requirements. Grade Determinations: Supervisory Dietitian (Clinical Nutrition), GS-12. (1) Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-11) examples include, skill in delivering patient care using the NCP (e.g., assessment, diagnosis, intervention, monitoring and evaluation), skill in interpreting research to apply evidence-based nutrition practices to improve patient outcomes, skill in developing patient-centered goals, skill in analyzing data for performance improvement studies, skill in collaborating with stakeholders, ability to comply with various accrediting, regulatory and agency authorities. (2) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs: Knowledge of accrediting requirements in clinical nutrition to assess staff compliance and implement performance improvements. Skill as a nutrition expert to provide technical guidance, direction and staff development. Skill in Evidence-Based Nutrition Practice Guidelines to develop, implement and coordinate best practices. Skill in establishing goals and objectives to coordinate activities, evaluate accomplishments and solve problems. Ability to supervise subordinate staff (i.e., plan, organize, delegate, direct, control and review activities and performance). Ability to analyze data in order to recommend allocation of resources. Preferred Experience: Certificate of Training in Obesity for Pediatrics and Adults preferred and/or at least two years of experience in providing comprehensive weight management care (specifically the MOVE! program).
