Work requires practical knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, medical terminology and legal requirements of a medical record. The position ensures verification and accurate processing of internal and third party clinical and demographic documentation of patients' health records. Overview of Responsibilities Processing Referrals 55% Composes and initiates internal and external referrals in the electronic health record (EHR); Documents notes in the EHR related to internal and external referrals. Reviews, prepares, receives and transmits releases of information (ROI); Documents and communicates information with providers (e.g., results, notes, and other records). Retrieves medical and/or dental information from electronic health systems for referrals and their healthcare providers. Verifies referral appointments in the electronic medical/health records and follows up on referrals. Helps patients in person and on the phone; Reviews patients' insurance and provides information about their benefits coverage and refers them to the appropriate department, as needed (i.e., Student Health Benefits Plan). Provides correspondence for prior authorization per insurance requirements. Assists with scheduling referrals appointments, as needed. Health Information Management 45% Manages health information management (HIM) email and phone calls; Monitors faxes and enters them into the EHR. Ensures notes and faxes, etc. that requires signatures are properly managed and documented. In coordination with the supervisor, reviews and responds to subpoenas and court orders. Prepares and submits invoices for services rendered (e.g., insurance companies, attorneys); ensures payments are routed to the Boynton Cashiers Office. Completes forms, letters, and notes in the electronic health record, as needed. Reviews and organizes medical records received by mail, fax, or from providers. Abstracts, reviews, compiles and enters patient information and photographs to the EHR. Retrieves and delivers documents to Boynton Health clinics and departments; Sort documents for scanning, processing, and faxing. Creates and reviews Occupational Health charts for Boynton Health staff, as needed. Performs other duties consistent with the job classification and position description. Required Qualifications High School Diploma/GED and four years of related health management information experience. Training and/or education may be substituted for some of the years of experience. Experience with Boynton's electronic health record (EHR) systems and referral process. Understanding and applying knowledge of state and federal regulations related to health management information. Demonstrated experience in a multicultural medical or social services setting. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, complemented by strong organizational abilities. Job experience with analytical & critical thinking, and judgment & discretion. Exceptional customer service and patient relations skills. Strong critical thinking and keen attention to detail. Proficient at managing multiple priorities and interruptions in a multitask work environment. Proficient in office operations and tasks. Highly skilled with computer technology and various applications. Preferred Qualifications Multilingual. OCHIN Epic experience. College campus/student health clinic experience.
