This position works 29 hours per week.

Our externship program offers practical, hands-on experience in the field of criminal prosecution, allowing participants to develop their skills, deepen their knowledge, and engage in work that supports victims, public safety and justice.
The 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office is accepting applications for Students Eligible under Student Practice Act, Colorado Rule of Admissions 205.7(2)(b), duly enrolled in an ABA accredited law school and have completed two years of legal studies.

Courtroom Experience under the Student Practice Act
Student Practice Attorney's gain real trial experience and are authorized-under supervision-to represent the People of the State of Colorado in court. This includes:
· Gain practical experience in a dynamic and fast-paced criminal justice environment.
· Develop transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.
· Receive mentorship and guidance from experienced professionals in the field of criminal prosecution.
Real Responsibility, Real Training
This is a true litigation role designed for students seeking to build immediate courtroom skills and prepare for a career in the criminal justice system .
Under the guidance of experienced prosecutors, Student Practice Act Externs:
Take ownership of their caseload
Learn effective case strategy and trial advocacy
Draft and argue motions
Interact with law enforcement, victims, and witnesses
Gain confidence in courtroom procedure and jury trial practice
Externs become integral members of their assigned teams and participate fully in training sessions, court observations, and collaborative meetings.
The 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office is committed to developing the next generation of Deputy District Attorneys. Student Practice Act Externs are fully authorized to appear in court and try cases under supervision. Individuals will clearly understand our community, our standards, and our commitment to justice. You will gain meaningful mentorship, real responsibility, and a firsthand understanding of what it means to serve as a prosecutor in Adams and Broomfield Counties.
Qualifications for Success
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Eligibility: Duly enrolled in an ABA accredited law school and have completed two years of legal studies and has not yet graduated from law school.

Student Practice Internship Applicants must successfully pass a background.

Employees who work within the parameters below are eligible to participate in the 457b deferred compensation plan:

Break in Service Requirement - 13 weeks
Lactation friendly certified workplace
OR
Duration - Up to 12 months
Weekly Hours - 29 or less hours
Break in Service Requirement - 13 weeks
Employees who work within the parameters below are eligible to participate in the the medical plan for the employee and child(ren) only as well as the 457b deferred compensation plan:
Duration - At least 3 months and up to 12 months
Weekly Hours - 30 or more
Break in Service Requirement - 13 weeks
