THE POSITION
The Department of Transportation is actively looking to hire a Transportation Construction Inspector for a position based in Clearfield County. This pivotal role involves a range of technical responsibilities, including the thorough inspection of highway occupancy permit applications, ongoing construction projects, and completed work within Engineering District 2-0. As a Transportation Construction Inspector, you will ensure that all activities adhere to the established construction codes, plans, standards, and specifications, thereby maintaining the integrity and safety of transportation infrastructure. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Transportation Construction Inspector in Clearfield County, your role involves conducting field inspections and evaluating all applications for proposed work that falls under a Highway Occupancy Permit within a designated area, typically spanning two to three counties. You will be responsible for inspecting work sites both prior to and following project completion, as well as performing random inspections of ongoing work to ensure compliance with established standards. Upon the completion of projects, you will carry out final inspections and prepare close-out reports for all satisfactorily finished jobs, while also taking necessary follow-up actions on any unfinished or substandard work to ensure compliance.
Additionally, you will review plans, specifications, and drawings submitted by consultant engineers, public utilities, and municipalities for utility projects, including water, sewer, gas, and other underground facilities, to confirm that the proposed work adheres to Department Policies and does not compromise the safety and integrity of the highway. Your responsibilities also include negotiating alternative locations for proposed facilities with permit applicants to minimize disruption to improved areas and enhance safety for the traveling public, as well as reviewing plans for above-ground facilities such as telephone and electric services to ensure they meet regulatory requirements.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment
Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.
You will work closely with vendors and work hours may change based on vendor availability.
Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $45,907.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics;or
One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement:
This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
