Summary The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) - Oncology/Hematology is located at the Kansas City VA Medical Center in Kansas City, MO and is responsible for providing care to patients seen in the Hematology/Oncology Clinic, utilizing national approved guidelines and standards of care. They will act as an advocate and guide patients with hematology, oncology conditions through the diagnostic phase of medical care. Responsibilities This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until March 13, 2026. Eligible applicants will be reviewed and referred to the hiring manager on a bi-weekly basis beginning January 26, 2025. Major duties of this position include, but not limited to the following: Independently manages a panel of patients with acute and chronic health conditions with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention using evidence-based practice. Provides assessments, evaluations, and care coordination of Veterans. Develops and implements an individualized plan to achieve optimal population health and disease management. Demonstrates leadership and works collaboratively with the team. Orders and interprets labs, tests, and diagnostic studies. Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions. Initiates referrals/consults to specialty services, serving as a VA and community liaison. Aides in health promotion, disease prevention, and health education. Provides education to patients and their families. Assesses and adjusts the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Travel to the CBOCs or Eastern Kansas as requested or assigned. When working with inpatients, expected to participate in discharge planning and other interdisciplinary patient care plan activities. Documents observation, assessments, and changes in patient's condition; collaborating with health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcomes. Sign notes, close encounters, address consultations and queries, and all required documentation per VA policy and KCVA medical staff bylaws. Attend mandatory meetings and on-time completion of trainings/education such as staff meetings, Talent Management System (TMS), and comply with specialist continuing medical education requirements timely. Encouraged to engage in scholarly activities including research, academic presentations, and contributions to medical literature. Qualifications Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) Basic Requirements Education: A post-master's certificate or master's or doctoral degree as a Nurse Practitioner. (Applicants pending the completion of educational requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until the education requirements are met.) Must be a graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). NOTE: Foreign Education. Graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing programs, the nurse practitioner degree equivalency must be validated through an Agency recognized degree equivalency evaluation agency, such as the International Consultants of Delaware (ICD). Candidates with equivalent nurse practitioner masters or doctorate level degrees who possess current, full, active, and unrestricted registration and certification will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing to warrant appointment. License - All APN (NPs) must possess and maintain an active, current, full, and unrestricted APN license to practice as an NP in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
