Senior Data Scientist - Global Forecasting

Must be Onsite in Boston, MA (Monday-Thursday)

Wayfair is an online retail platform with the mission to enable everyone to live in a home they love. The Global Forecasting team sits within the Customer Services organization and is responsible for building ML models that predict the level of contacts that we expect to receive from customers each day. The accuracy of these predictions determine how many staff we need in order to deliver a high level of service and support for our customers.

We are looking for advanced analytical, action-oriented, and collaborative individuals that can translate business problems to actionable insights and data-driven solutions to influence operational results. Successful individuals in this role excel at both qualitative and quantitative analysis while also being eager to communicate upward and outward to tell a concise story.

What You'll Do:

Design and develop machine learning models to address high-impact forecasting needs, ensuring alignment with Wayfair's business objectives.

Perform statistical analysis across large data sets and within defined segments to develop performance insights across a myriad of attributes.

Own the data science lifecycle, including monitoring and ongoing optimization to drive sustained accuracy, performance, and business value.

Develop key metrics and reporting to measure how forecasting initiatives are improving Wayfair's performance and enabling teams to identify trends and root causes.

Design and implement ETL pipelines to ensure timely, accurate, and reliable data ingestion and transformation.

Collaborate with cross-functional partners in Product, Ops, and Engineering to translate complex business requirements into scalable analytics and ML solutions.

Communicate insights model outcomes to both technical and non-technical stakeholders to inform strategic decisions and tell a concise story.

Build proto@types and dashboards to translate large data sets into driving insights and action.

Promote best practices in data modeling and documentation to ensure maintainability and team efficiency.

What You'll Need:

Master's degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Computer Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or a related discipline).

3+ years of hands-on experience in Data Science, with a proven track record of delivering high-impact solutions.

Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL for writing scripts and code in structured programming languages.

Experience building and maintaining production-grade ML models using frameworks such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.

Proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau, or Data Studio) and navigating large-scale datasets.

Strong analytical skills with the ability to navigate ambiguity, uncover insights, and propose actionable recommendations.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.

High attention to detail and an ownership mindset in managing multiple, competing priorities simultaneously.

An Important Note about Wayfair's In-Office Policy:

All Boston-based interns, Co-ops, and corporate employees will be in office in a hybrid capacity. Employees will work in the office on designated days, Monday - Thursday, and work remotely Friday.
