Responsibilities*
This Advanced Practice Professional will provide health care and specialized health services to patients and families enrolled in the Cardiac Surgery Program at the CVC Clinic.
Under physician supervision, the Advanced Practice Professional will coordinate care of clinic patients, perform consultations, pre-op evaluation and history, and follow up with the patients post-operatively.
Will also provide clinical expertise and direction to support patient medication management.
Will collaborate with other care providers/consultants to coordinate and communicate clinical care.
Maintain accurate documentation regarding patient status, evaluations, and treatments to physicians, the RN/Clinical Team; streamline the patient transfer process between levels of care, including communicating specific patient needs to internal and external Michigan Medicine team members and other ambulatory care providers.
Participate in quality assurance activities including Lean Projects with the Cardiac Surgery clinical team as necessary.
Perform other related duties as required to assure patient safety and satisfaction.
Participate in the development and presentation of educational experiences for patients, families and health care professionals.
Utilize Service Excellence and Patient Family Centered Care in daily practice.
Abide by the standards of care and standards of practice established by Michigan Medicine.
Practice within the regulations of the Michigan Public Health Code.
Required Qualifications*
NP:
Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.
Current specialty certification to practice as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Adult Primary Care Nurse Practitioner
Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
Minimum of 1 year of recent (within the last 5 years) provider (NP or PA) experience in adult cardiology or cardiac surgery
Current DEA registration required
AHA approved BLS also required unless ACLS was completed through the UMHS Simulation Center
ACLS
PA:
Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.
Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required
Current DEA registration required

Desired Qualifications*
At least 3 years' working full time in an Advanced Practice role in cardiac surgery or Cardiology in the last 5 years
Specific experience as an Advanced Practice Provider caring for patients with valve disease, aortic and treating hemodynamics.
3 years' experience within the last 4 years caring for the cardiac surgery or cardiology patients.
2 years experience within the last 5 years caring for the adult surgical population.
Demonstrated knowledge of adult cardiac physiology.
Demonstrates ability to independently manage complex care and a panel of patients in an advanced practice role.
Experience with wound care management and treatment of incision and drainage.
Experience with interpretation imaging modalities such as echocardiogram, cardiac catheterization, and CTA.
EKG interpretation.
Demonstrated expert analytical skills and ability to prioritize assignments and manage busy work environment.
Demonstrated clinical leadership as evidence by committees, organization memberships, etc.
Demonstrated experience in process and quality improvement.
Work Schedule
Hours/Week: 30 hours
Day shift - No on-Call /4 days, variable shifts
Location: CVC Clinic or other locations as needed

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Physician Assistants of Michigan Medicine (UPAMM), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
