Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Grants Accountant to join our team in Washington, District of Columbia. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining financial accuracy and compliance for grant-related transactions and reports. The ideal candidate will possess strong accounting skills and experience working in nonprofit or grant-based environments, ensuring all financial activities align with organizational and donor requirements.

Responsibilities:

Maintain and update financial records related to grants, ensuring accuracy and compliance with donor requirements.

Monitor and analyze grant expenditures to ensure alignment with approved budgets and financial guidelines.

Prepare and submit timely financial reports to donors and internal program teams.

Collaborate with program staff to develop grant budgets and assess budget performance against actual expenditures.

Provide financial data and budget narratives to support grant proposal development.

Assist with external audits by compiling necessary documentation and conducting detailed financial analysis.

Reconcile grant accounts and create journal entries as required.

Organize and manage grant files, including contracts, budget amendments, and correspondence.

Work closely with development and program teams to streamline communication and reporting processes.

Cross-train with the Senior Staff Accountant to gain proficiency in accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other finance-related tasks. Requirements - Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field.

2-4 years of accounting experience, ideally within a nonprofit or grant-focused organization.

Solid understanding of nonprofit accounting standards and practices.

Familiarity with grant compliance regulations and reporting requirements.

Proficiency in preparing journal entries and reconciling accounts.

Experience with corporate tax, sales tax, and general ledger management.

Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

Excellent communication and collaboration abilities to work effectively across teams.
