DESCRIPTION OF WORK This internship will be a unique opportunity for prospective interns - it will be split between two different archival sections, Collections Management and Public Services, with the intern working two days with each section's mentor each week.

The work with Collections Management will largely consist of reprocessing the voluminous Manuscript Group 199 - Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania Collections, circa 1830-1974. The intern will assist in rehousing collection materials (largely oversized technical drawings) into acid-free folders and containers, describing the records, and producing a finding aid for patrons to access MG-199 materials.

As for the Public Services assignments, the intern will work with his or her mentor in learning all aspects of a successful reference services section, including: completing remote patron research requests; assisting with search room reference duties; updating Archives' general and topical reference guides; scanning selected photographs related to the Archives' non-government (manuscript group) records; as well as other Public Services work as assigned.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: 10 week internship, May 2026 through August 2026, approximately 225 to 300 hours Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch. Work hours are flexible and will be finalized between selected interns and their supervisor. Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position. QUALIFICATIONS Internship Requirements: All applicants must be enrolled at a college or university in an undergraduate or graduate program at the time of their internship.

Additional Requirements: You must be able and willing to report to Harrisburg, PA during the Summer Keystone Internship dates, which will be a 10-week period between May 11, 2026 and August 21, 2026. Lodging and transportation are not provided. You must be majoring, minoring or have a concentration in Archival Studies, History, Public History, Library and Information Sciences, or a closely related field. You must have a minimum 2.5 GPA. You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualification (not required): The preferred candidate will have an interest in archives-specific work, such as working to preserve historical documents, photographs, and audio-visual materials, as well as an interest in genealogy or historical research using primary sources.
