Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) is seeking an Industrial Hygienist (Associate IH, IH, or Senior IH I) to be based in our Aiken, SC location on the Savannah River Site (SRS).

The Industrial Hygienist (Associate IH, IH, or Senior IH I) recognizes, eliminates, evaluates and controls occupational and environmental factors or stresses arising from the workplace or facility that may cause sickness, impaired health or well-being, or significant discomfort and inefficiency among workers or citizens of the community.
Safety is a primary responsibility in each job performed. An Associate Industrial Hygienist or Industrial Hygienist will obtain safety training, obey safety rules, and make safety an integral part of each task. An Associate Industrial Hygienist or Industrial Hygienist will take necessary steps to stop work if continuing the activity is unsafe or will create unsafe conditions.
Responsibilities
The Associate Industrial Hygienist (Grade 65), Industrial Hygienist (Grade 66), Senior Industrial Hygienist I (Grade 67) recognizes, eliminates, evaluates and controls occupational and environmental factors or stresses arising from the workplace or facility that may cause sickness, impaired health or well-being, or significant discomfort and inefficiency among workers or citizens of the community.
Conducts the monitoring of workplace environments by analyzing work operations, processes, materials, equipment, and work habits of employees
Educates employees on practices, precautions, and procedures
Audits programs and conditions at assigned facilities; provides written reports of findings with recommendations for improvement (where needed)
Accepts delegated technical responsibility for a limited scope of an Industrial Hygiene (IH) Program. Supports Senior Industrial Hygienist with IH programs
Performs conventional practices of IH by anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling environmental factors or stresses in the workplace
Assists in study, development, testing and analysis of designs, processes, and procedures relating to a limited scope of the group's function
Performs occupational exposure assessments of conventional work exposures and conducts exposure monitoring strategies as assigned
Organizes and accepts responsibility for the accuracy of limited technical analyses and evaluation of results using conventional IH techniques and procedures
Makes scientific IH calculations
Assists in the preparation of technical reports.

Additional responsibilities for an Industrial Hygienist (Grade 66):
Measures the magnitude of exposure to workers from environmental hazards by selecting or devising methods and instrumentation suitable for such measurements; and presents specific conclusions and recommendations to appropriate management groups
Assumes technical responsibility for implementation of an Industrial Hygiene (IH) Program within or across organizations/facilities.
Additional responsibilities for a Senior Industrial Hygienist I (Grade 67):
Incorporates complete understanding of Industrial Hygiene (IH) practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and programmatic planning where specific detailed objectives are stated
Carries out development and qualification programs on tasks concurrent with other phases of assignment
Ensures compliance with technical regulatory requirements
Develops alternate solutions to existing problems, performing all necessary detail work
Evaluates proposals and makes recommendations based on proposed projects/tasks
Prepares manuals and other documents supporting or publicizing technical effort
Develops and leads implementation of total quality and continuous improvement initiatives within the group

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline such as Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Health, Occupational Health or related physical or biological science
OR
Bachelor's degree in a non-technical discipline and work experience in a safety or IH role

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred qualification for an Associate Industrial Hygienist (Grade 65):
Previous internships
Degree from ABET accredited institution for industrial hygiene
Preferred qualification for an Industrial Hygienist (Grade 66):
Radiological Worker trained
Technical knowledge of IH regulations, standard concepts, practices, principles and techniques; working knowledge of pertinent IH practices and application
Degree from ABET accredited institution for industrial hygiene
Preferred qualification for a Senior Industrial Hygienist I (Grade 67):
Understands and applies advanced technical knowledge of IH regulations, standard concepts, practices, principles, and techniques; has working knowledge of pertinent IH practices and applications.
Demonstrated technical expertise as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in an integrated program (respirators, confined space work, field instrumentation).
Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) certified or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
Degree from ABET accredited institution for industrial hygiene
Radiological Worker trained
