University of Michigan Health-West (Formally Metro Health) is looking for Nuclear Med Tech

Under the direct supervision of the Radiology Operations Manager the responsibility of a Nuclear Medicine Technologist is to perform various technical procedures requiring independent judgment in the use of radioactive materials in the diagnosis and treatment of illness and conditions in patients. The technologist will review the patient's medical history to understand the patient's illness and pending diagnostic or treatment procedure; instruct the patient before, during, and following the procedure; evaluate the satisfactory preparation of the patient before beginning a procedure; and recognize emergency patient conditions and initiate lifesaving first aid when appropriate.

Requirements:

Completion of a formal approved Nuclear Medicine Technology program with a minimum of an Associate degree.

Registered ARRT (N), NMTCB or CAMRT required.

Current BLS certification - Basic life support.

Cardiovascular Services: ACLS certified within 6 months or employment.

Complete required continuing education hours to maintain certification.

Meets scope of practice and performance standards as identified by the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

Prepares and administers radioactive materials.

Will use the principle of As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) to minimize radiation dose.

Provides safe and effective patient care while performing duties of Nuclear Medicine Technologist

Adheres to policies and procedures set down by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, University of Michigan Health-West, and the Nuclear Medicine Department.

Utilize and effectively use all Radiology equipment and software in the performance of daily responsibilities.

Demonstrate the appropriate knowledge of all protocols and procedures

Participate in the department quality initiatives of the department.

Maintain certifications, registrations, and education requirements of the hospital and accrediting body.

Display consistent proficiency in using AIDET when communicating with patients, visitors, physicians, peers, managers, volunteers, internal and external customers.

Adheres to ALARA concept in place at University of Michigan Health-West, keeping radiation exposure to self, and others as low as reasonably achievable.

Follows NRC rules and regulations for ordering, receipt, handling, and disposal of radioactive materials (RAM), according to hospital license.

Performs other duties as assigned. These may include but are not limited to: Maintaining a current knowledge base of department processes, protocols and procedures, pursuing self-directed learning and continuing education opportunities, and participating on committees, task forces, and work groups as determined by management.

Medication Authorization

The organization requires this job classification to sign a "Delegation of Authority" authorization to utilize medications within their scope of practice.

The authority can and will be revoked at anytime, if the conditions are not met or patient safety is jeopardized. The "Delegation of Authority" is a formal document that is reviewed by the Pharmacy Director and Radiologist. This document is updated on an annual basis from the original date or date of amendment.
