Summary The LTC Charles S. Kettles VA Medical Center is seeking a Full-Time Licensed Practical Nurse for the Pain Clinic at the Ann Arbor VA location . Responsibilities Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is to perform assigned duties at the Pain Management Clinic in a manner that promotes quality health care, positive customer service and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving the veteran. LPN Pain Clinic Duties include, but are not limited to: Coordinates and monitors daily clinical flow. Monitors clinic access. Performs, reports, and records assigned nursing care, including but not limited to vital signs, clinical reminders as indicated, patient care follow up phone calls. Checks in patients for clinic appointments. Cleans exam rooms between patients. Obtains EKGs. Obtains equipment and assists with minor procedures Recognizes urgent and emergent patient care situations. Transports patients/ arranges for transport to ER and other departments as needed. Administers IM or SQ injections per protocol. Provides patient education as needed. Maintains inventory of stock and direct order specialty items. Checks expiration dates of supplies and medications. Utilizes the computer to access patient data to verify appointments, review progress notes, print medication profiles, and place equipment consults as appropriate. Interacts positively with patients, family members, professional and supportive personnel who provide patient care, and with members of other services. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team in developing, implementing, and evaluating the patient's plan of care. Attends team meetings. Takes appropriate actions based upon communications, observations, veteran care reports, and provider/staff discussion. Assists in the orientation of other staff. Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements, the following criteria must be met when determining the grade of candidates: GS-3: None beyond the basic requirements listed above. LPNs at this grade level are expected to perform all duties within the scope of their license (e.g., medication administration); however, completed work may require routine or detailed higher level review depending upon the complexity of the duties involved. GS-4: Employees may be appointed at or advanced to GS-4 if they meet any of the criteria below:1. Six months of qualifying experience as an LPN or LVN; or2. Graduation from an approved school (which may be waived as provided in paragraph 4 of Section C) and one year of experience that involved nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility that provided a practical knowledge of human body structure and sterile techniques and procedures; or3. Recognizes and appropriately responds to breakage/malfunction or loss of equipment, safety hazards, and supply deficiencies, promptly reporting to appropriate personnel for corrective action. 6. Completed work is under the general supervision of an RN or MD/DO. Individuals at this grade level are expected to have a broad working knowledge of practical nursing procedures. However, completion of more complex practices or procedures may be subject to closer higher-level review. GS-6: Completion of at least one (1) year of additional qualifying experience at the GS-5 level or equivalent fully meeting all performance requirements for the GS-5 LPN/LVN. 1. Knowledge and ability to appropriately carry out assigned patient care based on the patients' conditions; to use judgment in selecting the appropriate order and sequence of procedures and treatments; and to accurately recognize, report and record relevant] patient information.
