Maintenance Trades Helper (WAFB-2026-24389):
Bowhead seeks to network with a Maintenance Trades Helper (MTH) for a potitiona additon to a current contract where we provide hands-on support for Base Telecommunications System (BTS) operations and maintenance at Whiteman Air Force Base, MO. The Maintenance Trades Helper supports Inside Plant (ISP) and Outside Plant (OSP) telecommunications activities by performing non-technical, manual, and logistical tasks under the direct supervision of qualified telecommunications technicians. This position plays a critical role in ensuring safe, efficient, and timely execution of BTS maintenance, inspections, and work orders in support of mission-critical communications.
Responsibilities
Job duties to will include, but not limited to:
Provide manual and logistical support to telecommunications technicians performing Inside Plant (ISP) and Outside Plant (OSP) maintenance and work order activities
Stage, transport, and organize tools, materials, and equipment at job sites
Assist with cable placement, removal, and organization under direct supervision
Open, close, and secure handholes, maintenance holes, and cabinets as directed
Clean maintenance holes, handholes, terminals, and work areas, including removal of debris and abandoned materials
Support Preventive Maintenance Inspections (PMIs) by preparing work areas and assisting technicians during inspections
Assist with cable location, staking, and marking activities by placing markers, measuring distances, and restoring work areas
Label, tag, and organize cables, terminals, and materials as directed by supervising personnel
Perform job site setup and restoration, including barricading, signage placement, and cleanup
Operate basic hand tools and equipment in accordance with safety requirements and instructions
Transport materials and equipment between facilities and job sites using approved vehicles
Follow all safety, security, and environmental requirements, including OSHA, AFOSH, and base-specific procedures
Work effectively as part of a team and follow verbal and written instructions from supervisors and technicians
Maintain professionalism and proper identification while working on a military installation
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education
High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate required
Technical or vocational coursework in construction, utilities, telecommunications, or a related trade is a plus but not required
Years of experience
0-1 years of experience in a construction, maintenance, utilities, telecommunications, or related support role
Prior experience working in a helper, laborer, or apprentice capacity is preferred but not required
Experience working under the supervision of skilled trades personnel is a plus
Required skills or certifications
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work effectively under the direct supervision of qualified telecommunications technicians
Basic familiarity with hand tools and the ability to safely assist with manual tasks
Ability to comply with OSHA, AFOSH, and site-specific safety requirements
Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
Ability to obtain and maintain base access credentials (e.g., DBIDS or CAC, as required)
Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team
Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically
SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
