WSP has a career opportunity for an Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant Lead Operator for our Chevron Mine Wastewater Treatment Plant near Questa, New Mexico . The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the daily WWTP operations and the operations team to meet WSP and client goals. The successful candidate will work with the operations team and maintenance counterparts to ensure compliance with laws, policies and regulations and provide technical support and information to site staff within scope of experience.
Your Impact
Supervision and Oversight
Supervise assigned operations staff; meet regularly with operations staff to resolve workload and technical issues; prioritize and assign tasks and projects
Monitor operations staff work and safety performance and provide instruction on work/safety performance improvement, as needed
Oversee and audit the operations staff as they perform their rounds monitoring the process equipment throughout the WWTP
Ensure operations staff are properly trained according to site safety policies, standard operating procedures and job aids
Ensure staff adhere to policies and procedures in compliance with local, state and federal regulations
Assist with recruitment of replacement staff if/when staff vacancies occur
Inspection and Reporting
Inspect plant processes and equipment, analyze instrument readings and laboratory data
Review and edit daily operations staff notes for accuracy and trend data to provide input into plant process improvement
Manage chemical inventories and order chemicals as needed
Health, Safety Security and Environment
Ensure staff operate equipment in a safe and controlled manner in accordance with site health and safety plans and industry best practices and applicable federal programs such as OSHA
Ensure operations staff operate treatment equipment in accordance O&M manuals, discharge permits and/or other regulatory requirements
Manage initial process equipment troubleshooting with operations team and coordinate with maintenance staff to identify equipment maintenance priorities to maximize WWTP online availability
Identify and report potential and existing site hazards, incidents, Fatal Risk Controls, and pSIFs to site management and safety personnel
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED
Three+ years of operations work at wastewater treatment plants or similar facilities
Two additional years of experience supervising wastewater treatment or similar facilities operations staff
Ability to obtain a 40-hour OSHA HazWOPER certificate or have a current certificate
New Mexico Wastewater Treatment Operator Certification class "2" or higher.
Adherence to project timelines and WWTP project objectives
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and anti-harassment policies.
Excellent team relationship and communication skills and ability to manage daily operations tactical objectives
Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek or standard work day.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree or higher with emphasis on water treatment operations, business management, cost accounting, or safety systems
Experience with extensive programmatic health, safety, security and environment and operational excellence systems
Experience with ultrafiltration system operation and maintenance
