GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The WyomingDepartment of Corrections is seeking a Correctional Corporal at the Wyoming Women's Centerin Lusk, Wyoming. The Wyoming Women's Center (WWC) was established in 1981. It serves as a primary education and treatment center for female inmates. WWC provides programming, vocational, recreational, and educational programs to allow the WDOC to reduce recidivism through cognitive and behavioral intervention. This position is essential for maintaining the institution's safety and security and is considered a Law Enforcement position, receiving the 20-year retirement and state benefits package.
This is a senior correctional officer level, and the position performs various tasks to maintain the security and safety of a correctional facility, employees, inmates, visitors, and the community. This position is also r esponsible for ensuring a safe and enjoyable workplace, including participation in initiatives designed to promote a positive work environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level.
Reports all security violations to the Sergeant and submits recommendations for resolution.
Maintains security by supervising the conduct, work, leisure time, and discipline of inmates.
Keeps accurate records and documentation of activities.
Assigned to key assignments such as property, key control, and issue, as well as the main control centers.
Observes and reacts to aggressive inmate behavior.
Transports inmates to work release jobs, doctor appointments, and other places as deemed necessary.
Supervises and directs the work crew of prisoners engaged in cleaning or maintenance of buildings and grounds.
Investigates security related incidents in the area of jurisdiction.
Operates and controls a large electronic security system at a correctional facility.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES/ **AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:
Preference may be given to those with two or more years of work experience as a Correctional Officer, plus Advanced Wyoming POST Certification. Must be at least 18 years of age. Must be a U.S. Citizen. Must have a valid driver's license. Must not have a felony or domestic violence conviction or a DUI within the last two years.
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of prisoner behavior and prisoner social systems.
Knowledge of leadership and work management skills.
Knowledge of giving or receiving direction in a professional manner.
Knowledge of the electronic security systems, radio, and paging systems.
Knowledge of Department of Corrections policies and procedures.
Knowledge of correctional management principles.
Knowledge of prisoner behavior and prisoner social systems.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Associate's Degree (typically in Criminal Justice)
Experience:
0-2 years of progressive work experience in Correctional Security with acquired knowledge at the level of a Correctional Officer
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Correctional Officer Certification awarded by the Wyoming Peace Officers Standards & Training (POST) Commission. Applicants not holding Wyoming POST certification must be awarded certification within 6 months of employment.
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
2-4 years of progressive work experience in Correctional Security with acquired knowledge at the level of a Correctional Officer
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Correctional Officer Certification awarded by the Wyoming Peace Officers Standards & Training (POST) Commission. Applicants not holding Wyoming POST certification must be awarded certification within 6 months of employment.
Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Candidates must successfully pass a background/reference check, medical and psychological evaluation, physical fitness exam, urinalysis drug screen, and other pre-employment testing prior to appointment.
Candidates must have the ability to work overtime as required, and the ability to work on any shift, holidays, and weekends.

This position requires you to be POST certified. Candidates who are not POST-certified in Wyoming must satisfactorily complete all pre-offer and post-offer assessments required for POST-certified positions and must be POST-certified in Wyoming within six months of hire.
