The 1 west registered nurse provides care and counseling of persons or in the promotion and maintenance of health and prevention of illness and injury based upon the nursing process which includes systematic data gathering, assessment, appropriate nursing judgment, therapeutic relationship and evaluation of human responses to actual or potential health problems through such services as case finding, health teaching, health counseling; provision of care supportive to or restorative of life and well-being; and executing medical regimens including administering medications and treatments prescribed by a licensed or otherwise legally authorized provide.Duties: Establishes patient care priorities that ensure safe and effective patient care. Possess through knowledge of psychiatric patients, suicidal patients, restraints patients, patients with substance use disorder/withdrawal and patients with PTSD. Safely and effectively uses equipment required for patient care and reports equipment need of repair. Effectively directs the flow of patient care and nursing resources. Uses the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) and the Bar Coded Medication Administration (BCMA) software per policy. Demonstrates grade-appropriate and consistent critical thinking skills; recognize the patient has a problem. The nurse can manage the problem safely and effectively, recognizing his/her scope of practice. The nurse has a relative sense of urgency and takes the right action for the right reason. Encourages and supports patients and families to participate in care and decision-making at the level they choose. Demonstrate sound clinical judgment in assessing, planning, documenting, and evaluating patients. Demonstrates positive effective communication skills and professional behaviors that promote cooperation and teamwork with internal and external customers. Demonstrate consistent critical skills to ensure positive outcomes in the care of psychiatric patients, suicidal patients, retrained patients, patients with substance use disorder/withdrawal and patients with PTSD. Collaborates with patients, families, health care practitioners, and health care leaders in policy and program development, implementation, and evaluation, as well as in the delivery of care (Patient and Family Centered Care). Qualifications Basic Requirements: English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program. Upon achievement of a State license, the individual may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program. Credit for foreign nursing education higher that associate degree/entry level requires a formal degree equivalency validation from a recognized equivalency evaluation accepted by VA such as International Consultants of Delaware (ICD). Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) Exception: Candidates who otherwise meet the basic education requirements, but do not possess the required licensure, may be appointed at the entry step of the grade and level applicable to the completed nursing education as a GNT on a 120-day temporary appointment while actively pursuing licensure (may be extended up to two years on a case-by-case-basis.)
