Required Minimum Qualifications:Master's degree and 5 years of related experience. Current CPR/AED certification. Certified Athletic Trainer through the Board of Certification for Athletic Training (BOC). Must have and maintain licensure as a Licensed Athletic Trainer in the State of Iowa.
Preferred Qualifications:Significant experience providing athletic training services for a DI or NFL football program.
Experience supervising staff.
Oversight of a sports medicine facility.
Experience providing comprehensive rehabilitation and reconditioning of complex, post-surgical athletic injuries.
Skill serving as the primary contact and consultant to the head football coach on all sports medicine items.
Certified as a Corrective Exercise Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine.
Job Description:
Iowa State University Athletics Department is accepting applications for a certified athletic trainer to serve as the director of sports medicine for the football program. This position reports to the Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine and works closely with the Head Football Coach. They will be responsible for oversight and direction of the football athletic training facility and staff.
Examples of what you'll do
Supervises and oversees the daily activities for the football athletic training operations.
Manages football sport medicine staff and program needs to ensure coverage for practices, events, and team travel.
Develops and recommends program policies and procedures related to football to athletic administration.
Monitors all injury reports and rehabilitation plans and progress to ensure top level care is provided to our student-athletes.
Administers athletic training services to football student-athletes including prevention, testing, evaluation, treatment of injuries, rehabilitation and medical referrals.
Effectively communicates and collaborates with physicians, athletic trainers, medical specialists, coaches, dieticians, mental health personnel, strength and conditioning staff, and authorized third-party agents of the athletes regarding the status of student-athletes' injuries and recommendations.
Works with physicians and other athletic health care personnel to maximize care and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses to student-athletes and distribute injury prevention measures such as appliances, braces, and devices for control of joint motion and limb protection.
Monitors documentation of athletic health care activities with appropriate medical record keeping methods to meet State of Iowa Code.
Assists with managing the program budget.
Performs all duties in adherence with NCAA, Big 12, and university policies.
The successful candidate will possess excellent leadership, technical, time management, communication and problem solving skills. The position is physically demanding, therefore, the successful candidate will possess the ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs. The candidate will also possess the ability to work indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, work varying schedules that include regular evenings and weekends and overnight travel with teams. Candidates are expected to be committed to multiculturalism and working with a diverse student body.
This position serves at the pleasure of university administration and is exempt from certain P&S policies.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.
