Summary You will serve as a Safety and Occupational Health Manager for COMMANDER NAVY REGION MID-ATLANTIC. Responsibilities You will evaluate mission operation safety risks to develop methods and techniques that control or eliminate hazardous conditions. You will implement policies and procedures to control or eliminate identified hazardous conditions. You will administer explosive safety regulations and procedures to minimize potential safety hazards and manage the Explosive Safety Program for the Region. You will provide interpretations on legal requirements of SOH aspects of applicable guidelines and regulations, and initiate actions for the correction of deficiencies. You will provide administrative direction and oversight of the regional safety office to include budgeting, staffing and timekeeping. You will plan, organize, and direct comprehensive inspections and perform follow-up program evaluations of installations/activities to assess compliance with DON safety program requirements. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: (1) Recommending and implementing new techniques and methods for resolving critical problems resulting from unique changing work processes and numerous hazards; (2) Identifying, evaluating, monitoring, and controlling trends adverse to the safekeeping of personnel, equipment, and property to detect and develop countermeasures for existing and potential hazards detrimental to the safe and successful conduct of tactical operations and support activities; (3) Representing the Region at national conferences and inter-agency meetings on safety policies, problems, and issues; (4) Applying knowledge of industrial construction standards, methods, practices, techniques, materials, equipment, and utility systems; (5) Applying knowledge of explosives safety laws, policies, publications, rules, procedures, methods, standards and practices (e.g. Joint, NATO and international, federal agency standards) to complete work; (6) Ensuring safety measures are used for the proper handling, transporting, storage, and disposal of explosive materials, ammunition, or ordnance.
