Duties Description POSITION DESCRIPTION:This Senior Licensed Practical Nurse (Sr LPN) will provide supervision of LPNs in Rockland and Westchester County and assist with the growing need for enhanced nursing oversight due to a rise in medical complexities among residents. A Sr. LPN is proposed to address challenges by ensuring the health and safety of individuals requiring specialized care.This role would provide essential supervision to the LPNs who currently float throughout the counties.The Senior LPN would not only oversee nursing staff but also collaborate with local schools and colleges to foster future mentor ship opportunities for nursing students. This initiative could help cultivate a new generation of nurses who are well-prepared to meet the community's needs. Additionally, the Senior LPN would play a vital role in recruitment efforts, attending job fairs and local events to attract more nursing professionals to the department, ultimately aiming to strengthen the workforce in response to the increasing healthcare demands.PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Supervision of LPNs and unlicensed staff under the direction of a licensed healthcare provider, Registered Nurse, or physician.- Monitoring individual health statuses and implementing appropriate interventions while ensuring thorough documentation.- Assist in scheduling and/or providing nursing duties residents in CATH homes within Orange and Rockland Counties.- Assignment of basic care and observational tasks to staff according to individual treatment plans.- Providing care guidelines and training to enhance staff skills and ensure adherence to care standards.- Administration of medications and treatments, including the ordering of medications and medical supplies.- Review of physicians' orders and maintenance of compliance documents, such as nursing summaries and medical records.- Collaboration with RNs and frequent communication with primary RNs to promote continuity of care for individuals in the community.- Other duties as assigned.Linked In: http://www.linkedin.com/company/nys-office-for-people-with-developmental-disabilities/posts/?feedView=all #LI-JL2
Minimum Qualifications Promotion:Possession of a license and current registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse in New York State; and one year of service as a Senior Licensed Practical Nurse 1. Open Competitive:A license and current registration to practice as a practical nurse in New York State AND two years of experience providing nursing care and treatment services to individuals under the supervision of a registered nurse; assisting with the implementation of treatment plans; administering, observing, and recording medication management; educating and counseling individuals and families regarding illnesses, medications, tests, and treatment goals and procedures; monitoring and recording individuals progress; and supervising direct care staff.Transfer:Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive, non-competitive or 55-b/c status in the posted title and be eligible for lateral transfer; OR be eligible to transfer via Section 70.1, 70.4, or 52.6 of Civil Service Law. The transfer cannot be a second consecutive transfer resulting in an advancement of more than two salary grades. Additional Comments This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). HELPS Program titles may be filled via a non-competitive appointment. This means that you do not need to take an exam to qualify, but you do need to meet the minimum qualifications of the title.At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), employees hired under NY HELPS are expected to have their permanent non-competitive employment status converted to permanent competitive status. You will not have to take an exam to gain permanent competitive status.- Please note that starting salary for this title reflects the increased hiring salary, geographic pay differential and Downstate adjustment. Posted Hiring Salary includes the sum of the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 13 ($53,413), Increased Hiring Salary ($6,656), Geographic Pay Differential ($13,000) and Downstate adjustment ($4,000). The Geographic Pay Differential and Downstate adjustment are added to the job rate of ($65,061). - If you are currently a New York State employee serving in a permanent competitive qualifying title and eligible for a transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law, you may be appointed to this title as a permanent competitive employee.- For CSEA positions: Local Bidding Agreements will be honored.- Preference will be given to OPWDD employees impacted by closures.
