POSITION OVERVIEW:
We are seeking a creative and goal-oriented outreach and marketing manager to join us at Reading Universe, WETA's rapidly-growing national literacy project. We launched Reading Universe in July 2023 and we aim for it to become the leading source of information available anywhere about teaching children to read and write well. We serve teachers, reading coaches, and all other educators who work with students in pre-K through sixth grade. Our user base is growing rapidly and we are aiming now to accelerate that growth.You will be responsible for planning, developing, and implementing marketing and outreach efforts to anyone involved in teaching children to read and write: reading teachers and reading coaches; literacy organizations and other non-profits; state departments of education; school districts; and educator preparation programs.
Success in this role will be measured by:
Deep and sustained engagement with Reading Universe from national organizations and education leaders and
Significant, sustained growth in the number of educators using ReadingUniverse.org, our YouTube channel, and our social media channels. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to improving elementary education, excellent communication skills, command of social media platforms, and contagious energy for building relationships. You would also have a strong connection with our mission: delivering high-quality and accessible resources to educators everywhere so that every child has a better opportunity to become a skilled reader and writer. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:As the Outreach and Marketing Manager for Reading Universe, you will be integrally involved in a broad range of activities, potentially including many of the following:
Campaign Development:-
Support the design of and implement a multi-channel marketing campaign targeting pre-K through sixth grade educators, leveraging our compelling instructional content to reach teachers nationwide.
Manage marketing campaigns that will likely include some paid/boosted ad campaigns
Drive and incentivize desired user behavior (ex: taking the first course, referring a friend, becoming a registered user; subscribing to our newsletter)
Develop targeted campaigns to reach key audience segments, potentially including school administrators, literacy partners, reading coaches, and teachers
Set up cross-promotional opportunities to engage users across the WETA Learning Media portfolio of education websites.
Develop content calendars for social channels (Instagram, X, Facebook, and YouTube) and key site pages (e.g. our homepage and Our Community).
Help identify potential influencers and nurture channel growth and engagement with them.
Measure and analyze the impact of social media initiatives, setting goals for channel growth, impressions, engagement and referral traffic and conversations.
Monitor and respond to conversations on social platforms.
Manage email campaigns.
Community Outreach:
Develop the Our Community section of the website to support partnership and teacher engagement.
Develop outreach media kits for literacy partners to share news and content from RU to ensure reposting.
Proactively seek out opportunities for RU expert staff to conduct online presentations and training with partner organizations and/or at national conferences, working closely with the team to coordinate those engagements.
Work closely with team members to identify and help develop digital (social media, videos, webinars etc.) and print materials for outreach initiatives, events, and marketing campaigns.
Create playlists on our YouTube Channel and be mindful of opportunities to maximize our presence and impact on YouTube.
Organize and/or support our conference and funder event presence, including promotional materials that we produce and distribute.
Partnership Building:
Cultivate relationships with education organizations with the goal of acquiring and building a national base of support for Reading Universe.
Collaborative Communication:-
Editing/Problem Solving: As needed, address and resolve any technical or creative issues that arise during our content production and editing process, finding effective solutions to maintain project quality and timelines.

CORE COMPETENCIES:Work Experience: minimum of four years' experience in education and outreach.
Technical: Familiarity with social media programming.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: Strong interpersonal skills, including comfort speaking in front of various sized groups and interacting with people of all ages and backgroundsAware, empathetic and responsive to the needs of various communitiesExperience developing digital learning tools is a plus
Familiarity with the challenges facing teachers in grades pre-K-6.
Ability to manage a complex, long-term project.
Familiarity with social media being used effectively to serve educators.

BA/BS (4-Year College / University Degree)
LOCATION: WETA and NewsHour Productions are Washington, DC established media and news organizations. We are a largely local workforce based out of the Campbell Place office in Arlington, VA. WETA and NewsHour Productions value employee flexibility when possible. Most positions based in our Arlington, VA office will be onsite or hybrid, depending upon the role.
