Are you ready to work in the criminal justice field? The District Attorney's Office is hiring a Temporary Victim Witness Advocate to support victims of crime that are navigating the criminal justice system through the Family Justice Center of Nevada County. The Victim Witness Assistance Center program is crafted to reduce the trauma and insensitive treatment that victims and witnesses may experience in the wake of a crime.
This position is bilingual in English and Spanish. Spanish oral and written skills are required for this position. A bilingual test will be a part of the qualification determination process to ensure level of fluency.

THE WRITTEN/ORAL EXAM IS SCHEDULED IN NEVADA COUNTY - NO REMOTE TESTING
The ideal candidate is proficient in the use of digital technology. Basic knowledge of legal terminology and procedures will help you be successful in this role. The ideal candidate is bilingual (Spanish/English; other languages a plus), compassionate, organized, and skilled at working with individuals who have experienced trauma.
This assignment will support our Family Justice Center based in Nevada City, California.
As a Victim Witness Advocate, you will:
· Provide victim advocacy services to help reduce the risk of further victimization of victims and witnesses.
· Conduct trauma-informed, culturally responsive intakes and assessments with Family Justice Center clients.
· Aid and support crime victims throughout the criminal justice process.
· Conduct risk assessments to evaluate victims' safety and needs.
· Provide ongoing navigation and warm referrals to co-located and community-based services.
· Provide immediate and ongoing emotional and material support by offering resources and victim-related information.
· Support clients in communication with law enforcement, prosecutors, and other justice system partners while honoring survivor choice.

Education and Experience Required
Equivalent to college level course work in social science, behavioral science, criminology, administration of justice or a closely related field from an accredited college or university
AND
Equivalent to one year of work experience involving processes in the criminal justice or judicial system which include the provision of victim services, peer counseling or social service work.
Licenses and Certificates
Must successfully complete the required forty-hour training curriculum for Victim Advocateswithin first year of full time employment, and obtain the appropriate victim advocate certification.

Sick Leave:
Temporary County employees shall accrue at the rate of one (1) hour of sick leave for each thirty (30) hours worked. Temporary County employees can accrue a maximum of 80 hours of sick leave which may be carried over from one fiscal year to the next.
Medical Benefits:
Temporary employees whose assignments average 30 hours per week or more are eligible to enroll in County-sponsored medical benefits.
