Job Summary:
Key Responsibilities:
Develop collaborative, multi-omic research projects with cancer center members
Develop data analysis pipelines for multi-omic data, including writing code, using version control (ie. GitHub), and generating results to be presented back to collaborators
Work collaboratively with wet lab cancer researchers, computational scientists and biostatisticians
Manage a team of 4 bioinformatics analysts, providing project assignment and oversight to ensure progress
Run the weekly BBSR meeting to discuss the status of on-going research projects and present new projects for discussion
Mentor bioinformatics analysts on the BBSR team
Write progress reports and manage billing and grant support for group
Write and review section of manuscripts and grant applications related to multi-omics plans and methods

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
A PhD or equivalent in Bioinformatics/ Computational Biology/Pharmacology/Cancer Biology or related fields
At least 3 years managing 2 or more analysts, inclusive of work assignment, oversight of work progress, and management responsibilities or at least 5 years of collaborating and leading bioinformatics projects
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience programming and attributable source code in R, Python, or related languages that are widely used in Bioinformatics

The University of Colorado Comprehensive Cancer Center (UCCC) is seeking a PhD-level or equivalently experienced Bioinformatics researcher with a proven track record of analysis, interpretation and presentation of -omic related datasets, which can additionally include algorithm, pipeline, or database development. The ideal candidate will have developed a method to analyze or "make sense" of cancer multi-omic data. This position will be the manager of the Bioinformatics and Biostatistics Shared Resource (BBSR) through the UCCC, which is a group of highly experienced Bioinformatics analysts that work across an array of -omics technologies. The ideal candidate will be able to effectively collaborate and organize their time to work on multiple projects. This position will also offer the opportunity to develop independence of research through individual and collaborative grant funding. The job is roughly split: 60% analysis/projects, 20% project/analyst management, 20% service and administration
this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.
This position is ideal for individuals looking to gain experience and contribute to cancer research leveraging multi-omics data. The Bioinformatics and Biostatistics Shared Resource provides the opportunity to interact with over 250 cancer center members and participate in cutting edge research. We work closely cancer center members that generate multi-omic data and require Bioinformatics expertise, we meet weekly to discuss projects, we have the opportunity to attend numerous scientific presentations across campus, including the weekly Cancer Center Symposium series, and we work closely as a team to develop a shared code base. We are a close knit group of Bioinformatics analysts who collaborate to support cancer related research on campus. Given the nature of the work, which is all computational, there is flexibility to work remotely. Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
A publication record in cancer research in peer reviewed journals.
A specialist understanding in a highly relevant field in cancer research, such as immunology, developmental biology, cell signaling, or a specific cancer @type (e.g., prostate, breast)
Experience analyzing data from multiple -omics data@types Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on multiple projects simultaneously
An active GitHub repository and experience with working in a software development team
A published example of a developed algorithm, pipeline, or database with application to multi-omic or image data. Ideally an R package in CRAN or Bioconductor.
Demonstrated ability to train researchers in bioinformatics skills and techniques
Experience with project management, including software for tracking projects.
A track record of contributions to proposals for research funding
Interest in developing new analytical workflows for emerging technologies (e.g., multiplexed ion beam imaging or single cell technologies)
Excellent time management and organizational skills.
Experience researching cancer-related questions

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $110,000-$124,000 The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
