JOB REQUIREMENTS: Adjunct Faculty, Biomedical Sciences Posting Number: 201104617 Employment Status: Part Time Job Family: Faculty Position Overview This position will teach courses and create high quality student experiential learning opportunities that arise from new community engagement programs. These efforts will advance the Department of Biomedical Sciences\' strategic objective to become the primary hub in southeastern Wisconsin for biomedical science workforce development, education, and community service. The position will also develop avenues for the department and its students to respond effectively to the needs of local organizations, policymakers, and residents. It will support the academic mission by contributing to courses such as BISC 4170 (Biology, Moral Behavior, and Policy) and BISC 4461 (Comparative Health Politics), which will integrate biomedical science with health policy and community health. The role will coordinate outreach activities that will build trust-based partnerships through listening sessions, collaborative projects, and public events. Student participation will be central to these initiatives, providing experiential learning that is vital for career discernment and for strengthening applications to pre health professional programs. Students will be able to pursue these opportunities for academic credit through BISC 4988 (Internship in Biomedical Sciences) or BISC 4997H (Capstone Project for the Biomedical Sciences Disciplinary Honors Program). Duties and Responsibilities Develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate courses that integrate biomedical science with health policy and community health. Create and oversee student experiential learning opportunities that emerge from community engagement initiatives, ensuring these activities support career discernment and preparation for pre-health professional programs. Establish and maintain partnerships with Wisconsin organizations, policymakers, philanthropic entities, and campus groups to identify community needs and opportunities for collaborative biomedical science programs. Conduct listening sessions and stakeholder meetings to gather insights on community priorities and determine how departmental expertise can inform and support community health challenges. Coordinate outreach events and activities, including meet-and-greet sessions, workshops, roundtables, and presentations that connect community partners with Biomedical Sciences faculty and students. Prepare summary reports and recommendations, including an annual or semester-based synthesis of community needs, partnership opportunities, and suggested programmatic next steps. Support credit-bearing student engagement, including supervision of students enrolled in BISC 4988 (Internship in Biomedical Sciences) and BISC 4997H (Capstone Project for the Biomedical Sciences Disciplinary Honors Program). Represent the department in community-facing and interdisciplinary university initiatives that advance its strategic goal of becoming the regional hub for biomedical sciences in southeastern Wisconsin. ** OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Masters Degree preferred or substantial progress toward the terminal degree. Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Advanced training or graduate-level coursework in biomedical sciences, public health, health policy, or a closely related field. Commitment to equity-focused and community-informed approaches, with sensitivity to the lived experiences and priorities of diverse populations. Experience working in roles involving student mentorship, curriculum development, or program coordination. Demonstrated success in building long-term community partnerships, especially those involving collaborative research, outreach, or health-related programming. Experience supervising or advising undergraduate students engaged in internships, capstone projects, orcommunity-based learning. Familiarity with the Milwaukee metropolitan region, including its public health landscape, community organizations, and policy environment. Prior involvement in grant writing, fundraising, or engagement with philanthropic organizations to support community-oriented research or educational initiatives. Experience facilitating public events, workshops, or stakeholder meetings, with the ability to communicate complex scientific or policy concepts to non-specialist audiences. Background in interdisciplinary collaboration, particularly across science, policy, and community engagement domains. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and community empowerment, especially in health-related @contexts. Ability to evaluate program effectiveness and use data or community feedback to refine outreach initiatives and student learning experiences.
