Summary The James A. Haley VA Medical Center in Tampa has Registered Nurse vacancies within Nursing Service. These positions are part of the Nursing Mental Health department. Responsibilities The registered nurse BHIP provides care and counseling of persons or in the promotion and maintenance of health and prevention of illness and injury based upon the nursing process which includes systematic data gathering, assessment, appropriate nursing judgment, and evaluation of human responses. The registered nurse assigned to the mental health team functions as part of interdisciplinary treatment teams providing care for outpatient mental health patients. Assignment can also be made to a specialty service team within mental health. Mental health provides the following services: Group Programming, Evidence-Based Treatments, Tele-mental Health, Medication Management, Couples and Family Counseling, Psychological Assessment, and other mental health services. Duties include, but are not limited to: Provides risk assessment and triage services for patients seeking access to mental health services. Performs structured clinical assessments and complex, systematic psychiatric assessments which include the total health status of the patient. Provides crisis intervention services which include a nursing assessment of needs and safety concerns and then linking the veteran as needed to the proper services for appropriate intervention to ensure safety. Provides comprehensive health triage both on the phone and face to face including but not limited to assessing walk-ins to include an evaluation of safety and treatment needs as indicated with goal of meeting the needs of the Veteran in a timely manner. Provides communication and collaboration with families and /or other concerned individuals as appropriate (given confidentiality concerns) to support the Veterans Recovery goals. Responds to My HealtheVet secure messages and/ or triaging secure messages to providers. Collaborates with other disciplines and caregivers and uses group processes for decision making in interdisciplinary problem solving. Administers long-acting psychiatric injections. Collaborates in the development of an appropriate treatment plan and/or safety plan for patients, and the ability to communicate that plan to the patient and family. Provides nursing intervention as needed and as defined by the RN Scope of Practice in the management of medication and other health issues. Shares clinical/professional expertise with others within the facility or beyond through consultation, presentations, publications, participation in professional organizations, etc. as a resource person or consultant in an area of practice. Assists with the process of voluntary and involuntary hospitalization including providing one-to-one supervision of individuals requiring such service. Assists with patient care by completing CPRS Mental Health Reminders Coordinates with administrative officer to order medical supplies. Collaborates with Mental Health Intensive Case Manager and pharmacy to order and verify long-acting psychiatry medications on weekly basis. Monitors medication and supplies expiration dates monthly. Contacts NEIE Medical waste services for schedule and pick up. Assists and provide coverage for Primary Care Clinic and Substance Use Disorder Clinic Monitors AED and Narcan daily. Places depot appointment reminder calls to patients Places and documents follow up calls for no shows. Coordinates with other agencies and making referrals to provide patients with necessary community services. Monitors telephone calls and identify potential emergencies, coordinate patient care with other facilities and agencies. Directs nursing care to individuals and groups of patients in accordance with the policies of the JAHVH. Serves as a liaison to Inpatient Mental Health to facilitate continuity of care. Provides coverage as needed for other staff in the Mental Health Clinic. Qualifications Basic Requirements: English Language Proficiency. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program. Upon achievement of a State license, the individual may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program. Credit for foreign nursing education higher that associate degree/entry level requires a formal degree equivalency validation from a recognized equivalency evaluation accepted by VA such as International Consultants of Delaware (ICD).
