Job Description
Iowa Workforce Development is seeking applicants for the position of Accounting Technician 2 in our Finance and Accounting Division at 1000 E Grand Ave., Des Moines, IA.
In this role you will be responsible for:
Accounts Payable
Review, process, and pay Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) agency payables and grants. Enter invoices into the state's accounting system after verifying they meet all eligibility requirements under State and DAS SAE processing rules. Ensure payments are processed in compliance with IWD and State policies. Manage partner invoices for American Job Centers and IWD field offices, and coordinate partner billing activities with the Accountant 2.
Travel
Review and approve in-state and out-of-state travel requests and expense reports in the Workday system. Verify that travel claims are accurate, include all required documentation, and comply with DAS SAE travel policies. Apply knowledge of DAS SAE rules related to allowable reimbursement rates and documentation requirements. Provide clear guidance and constructive feedback to employees submitting travel claims, including detailed explanations for any rejections and instructions on the corrective actions needed for approval.
Cash Deposits
Responsible for processing the cash deposits for the partners in relation to all rental items identified through the Accountant 2.
Trade Payments
Assist in processing Trade payments in the IowaWorkssystem.
Other duties assigned.
Essential functions:
Review, process, and complete payments of IWD agency payables and grants.
Review and approve in-state travel and out of state within the Workday system.
Receive checks through Accountant 2, inputting funding in I3 and updating CR to complete daily deposits.
Received Trade payment data from Accountant 2 and processes transactions in I3 accordingly.

Hours of Work: Monday - Friday 8:00am-4:30pm. Hybrid telework and alternate work schedule opportunities for eligible classifications after 6-months of employment has been completed.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalency and four years of clerical accounting experience which involved the compilation, tabulation, examination, verification or recording of financial, statistical or related fiscal programs using elementary bookkeeping principles and practices;
OR
the successful completion of a post-high school vocational/technical, business college, or area community college curriculum in accounting which included concentrated course work equivalent to twenty semester hours (or more) in accounting;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of employment in clerical office work for each year of the required education;
OR
substituting the successful completion of thirty semester hours or the academic equivalent in a post high school Business, Accounting or closely related curriculum for each year of the required experience;
OR
any equivalent combination of qualifying education or experience;
OR
one year of experience as an Accounting Technician 1 in the State of Iowa classified service will be considered as qualifying;
OR
one year of work experience as an Accounting Clerk 3 in the State of Iowa classified service will be considered as qualifying.
