Job Summary
The Department of Emergency medicine is recruiting a Medical Assistant III for a new role supporting our clinical operations. The position will focus on patient communication, follow-up, and coordinating care as directed by licensed providers. It will also include general administrative support of our clinical mission. We anticipate most patient interaction for this role will take place over the phone rather than in person.
Responsibilities
Patient Communication & Care Coordination:
Conduct timely follow-up phone calls with high-risk patients regarding appointments, test results, and care instructions
Coordinate care transitions and communication with Emergency Department leadership and (ED) case management teams
Track and follow up on ED lab and imaging results, ensuring timely review and communication with providers
Support clinical initiatives to improve patient care and patient experience
Certification & Compliance Support:
Serve as Department Mask Fit Testing Super User (will be required to complete Super User training with Work Wellness/Employee health upon hire). Responsibilities including: track, schedule, conduct and document annual mask fit tests for department providers.
Maintenance of electronic certification records for:
ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support)
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all certifications and notify individuals of upcoming expirations.
DEA Licenses
Controlled Substance Licenses
Medical Licenses
Notify individuals of upcoming expirations.
Required Immunizations/TB Testing
Annual Bridge ( LMS ) Training
Administrative & Liaison Duties:
Act as a central point of contact between clinical staff and administrative department
Assist with scheduling, documentation, and communication related to ongoing training and compliance requirements
Support faculty, staff and residents with administrative needs related to credentialing and onboarding
Outreach and relationship building with external clinical partners
Minimum Qualifications
Required:
Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
One of the following:
Current Advanced EMT certification with the State of Utah.
Current certification to practice as a Paramedic in the State of Utah.
Current certification as a Certified Medical Assistant ( CMA ) through AAMA
Currently credentialed in ABR -OE (Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry) through AAMA .
Current certification as a Registered Medical Assistant ( RMA ) through AMT
Current certification as a National Certified Medical Assistant ( NCMA ) through NCCT .
Current Clinical Medical Assistant Certification through NHA .
Current certification as a NRCMA - Medical Assistant through the National Association for Health Professionals.
Three years of experience as a Medical Assistant.
Preferences
Familiarity with hospital or academic medical center operations
Oral and written fluency in Spanish
Microsoft Excel experience
Experience using Cloud-based storage like Box or OneDrive
Highly detail-oriented with great organization and follow-through
Strong communication skills
Proficiency in electronic health records ( EHR )
Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadline in a fast-paced environment
