Summary The Maintenance Mechanic Leader must possess the skills and knowledge to serve as team leader for the trade activities of Facility Management Service. The Maintenance Mechanic regularly performs and leads the team members in trade duties to include the following, but not limited to; assisting the electricians, pipefitters, A/C mechanics, welder, carpenters, masons and other trades persons ensuring that the quality and quantity of work performed meets established standards. Responsibilities Incumbent issues equipment and supplies and provides direction to employees in the proper usage. Prepares equipment and supplies ensuring that proper equipment is on hand at all times so that unnecessary trips to the shop areas can be avoided. Observes team members to ensure that they are using supplies and equipment properly so as to avoid waste of damage. Incumbent issues equipment and supplies and provides direction to employees in the proper usage. Incumbent assist in on-the-job training activities of employees in proper trade techniques. Incumbent must be familiar with pertinent rules and regulations regarding employees conduct, safety, fire, care of equipment, etc. Must be familiar with proper safety techniques and procedures so that the regular and safe functioning of the Medical Center is assured. Must understand instructions from the supervisor in order to effectively transmit these instructions to their team members in a clear concise manner to preclude any confusion in job performance. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The physical demands of the position will be that normally required of a journeyman trades-person. Some heavy lifting ( equipment and materials), movement of ladders required along with the stamina to perform physical labor. Continuous walking, standing, stooping, bending, and lifting, arduous physical effort is required in the performance of manual tasks and continuous standing for extended periods of time when performing trade tasks. Working conditions such as ventilation and environment are satisfactory. Incumbent may be subject to occasional noise, skin irritations, cuts, and bruises. The work performed requires continuous walking when making inspections in the various buildings. When occasionally performing trade tasks, moderate effort is expended. Incumbent is part of the snow removal team and may be utilized during inclement weather as needed.
