Overview
Microsoft's Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO+I) team builds and operates Microsoft datacenters, which in turn power Microsoft's cloud business. We anticipate and provide capacity for continuous scale, enabling ~30% of Microsoft revenue through Commercial Cloud .The CO+I Engineering team (CO+IE) delivers services, applications, and automation supporting datacenter planning, construction, and operation. We own a large portfolio of services, including workflows that enable predicable, lowest cost datacenter construction, telemetry systems that drive high availability and optimized energy usage, and task and performance management applications that help our operation run as efficiently as possible. Cloud Operations + Innovation Engineering is a competitive advantage for Microsoft, and an important pillar in its cloud success.
Within the Cloud Operations & Innovation organization, we are the Inventory and Asset Management Engineering team that builds and operates Microsoft datacenters. We own inventory systems that track inventory and inventory operations in the datacenters, our data and services contribute a great portion of enabling Microsoft datacenters to run smoothly.
Our focus is on smart growth, high efficiency, and delivering a trusted experience to our customers and partners worldwide. Our solutions orchestrate and coordinate with systems and processes across organizations in Microsoft. We acknowledge that the world will never be perfect, so our systems deal with it.
In 2025, our team will expand its scope to include integration capabilities with third-party Transportation Management Systems. As we support the rapid growth of AI Cloud and Infrastructure, we're looking for Software Engineering Manager to help our team of builders who can navigate ambiguity and help design and implement scalable systems.
Responsibilities
You will drive product and engineering impact by delivering new customer value end to end and improving engineering efficiency in measurable ways.
You will ensure that feature crews deliver with speed and quality. As an engineering manager, you will help teams resolve conflict, organize your team for efficiency, prioritize towards impact and help your team find better ways to solve problems. You will actively review code, tools and telemetry, and create plans to improve developer engagement, productivity and product quality.
You will be expected to provide technical leadership in the team for incidents, on design and architecture. You will guide?your team to improve compliance (security, privacy, accessibility). Your ICs should look up to you to solve hard technical problems.
You will manage communication and collaboration for your team by setting the right expectations with leadership, negotiating dependencies with partners, and promptly resolving conflicts.
You create clarity and opportunities in their team for higher impact.
Break down long term project vision into shovel ready plans.
Generates new opportunities and oversees resourcing in the team to improve agility and quality.
Engineering managers are accountable for growing their team by increasing employee engagement and happiness, upleveling team impact year over year, growing talent and retaining employees, and championing the team's culture.
Qualifications
Required/minimum qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
OR equivalent experience.
Background Check Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or preferred qualifications
Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
OR equivalent experience.
4+ years people management experience.
Experience on system integration with 3rd party systems.
2+ years experience working with data analytics, data pipelines and cloud computing services, such as Azure.
Experience on leading end-to-end integration of Blue Yonder solutions.
Experience on supply chain software is preferred

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
