Job Summary
Directs the construction activities across multiple projects consisting of the construction of new, modifications and demolition to existing AEP Generation facilities in specified region or area of specialty. Provide guidance, instruction, training and effective communications to Site Construction Managers or designees to ensure projects are initiated, planned, executed, monitored and controlled, and closed in a safe, efficient and economical manner to achieve short and long range goals and to obtain maximum customer satisfaction and profitable performance. Direct the execution of assigned PC&C projects and support the planning and scheduling effort in conjunction with the Project Management group. Provide leadership, develop partnerships and effectively communicate with all stakeholders including internal customers (plant management teams), external customers, team members, suppliers, contractors, vendors, labor, governmental agencies, and industry peers.
Job Description
The selected candidate MUST maintain residency within AEP's western service territory, with a strong preference for proximity to Tulsa, OK or Hallsville, TX.
What you'll do:
Provide strategic leadership and direction for multiple construction projects, ensuring effective planning, execution, and alignment with organizational objectives.
Oversee project development and delivery, including conceptual design, scheduling, resource allocation, and implementation.
Champion AEP's Safety Policies, fostering a culture of Zero Harm and holding employees and contractors accountable for safe work practices.
Review and monitor project plans, scope, schedules, staffing, and progress reporting to ensure compliance and performance.
Communicate project status and key updates clearly and effectively to stakeholders.
Offer guidance and training to optimize schedules, designs, systems, procedures, and cost efficiency.
Collaborate with internal teams and external partners, including contractors, design professionals, vendors, and regulatory agencies, to resolve issues and maintain strong relationships.
Develop staffing and budget plans for direct employees and supplemental resources to meet project demands.
Ensure alignment with project goals related to safety, scope, schedule, quality, and cost control through close coordination with Project and Plant Management.
Provide early-stage input to improve project design, contractor selection, and overall execution strategy.
Support contracting processes and ensure ethical, transparent practices throughout.
Drive employee development while assessing team capabilities and making organizational adjustments for success.
Promote accountability and ethical behavior, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
Leverage subject matter experts, asking critical questions and validating information to ensure informed decision-making.
Ensure compliance with safety, environmental standards, and regulatory requirements, verifying that construction aligns with approved specifications, drawings, and permits.
Exercise sound judgment and decisive action, independently managing routine issues and escalating only when deviations from standard processes occur.
What we're looking for:
Construction Manager SG10
Bachelor of Science degree in related field such as Construction Management or Engineering from an accredited university or college
And minimum 12 years experience in one or more of the following that includes 5 years experience managing/supervising personnel: industrial construction projects, project management, project controls, fossil plant operations, labor negotiations or related experience.
OR A minimum of 15 years experience in one or more of the following that includes 5 years experience managing/supervising personnel: project management, project controls, fossil plant operations, labor negotiations or working on industrial construction projects as a skilled worker such as a boilermaker, ironworker, electrician, pipefitter, operator, laborer, millwright or related experience.
In addition:
Proven ability to lead and collaborate within multi-disciplinary teams, driving projects to successful completion.
Strong leadership and team-building skills, with expertise in meeting facilitation and stakeholder engagement.
Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, across all organizational levels, including sponsors and senior management.
Solid business and economic acumen, with comprehensive understanding of engineering, procurement, contracting, estimating, construction, and startup processes.
Strategic thinker with advanced planning, risk assessment, and prioritization capabilities, able to evaluate projects holistically for constructability, sequencing, contingencies, and contractual considerations to mitigate risks effectively.
Skilled in conflict resolution, fostering collaboration and ensuring decisions align with organizational objectives.
Proficient in scope management and construction methodologies, including coordination of complex outages and project assignments in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
Technologically adept, with experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Visio).
