Hundreds of millions of users using Office365 services, huge amount of data are generated every day. Data is mission critical for Office365 services. It helps engineering teams to understand the quality of live services, generate insights of feature usage and user behavior, troubleshoot bugs and issues. It also offers better visibility to product and management teams on business impacts, empowers product and scientist teams to build intelligence features. To support the continuously growth of business needs from Office365, Office Data Loader team builds the hyper-scale distributed data ingestion service. We directly manage the ingestion service on more than 300,000 Exchange Online machines, which upload more than 30,000 TB data to our hyper-scale distributed storage every day. We also support the ingestion service running on even more machines for other Office365 products.
Office Data Loader team is hiring a Principal Software Engineering Manager to lead and build one of the most largest hyper-scale data ingestion service in the world for Office365 services.
As the Principal Software Engineering Manager, you will lead a team to develop and improve the Copilot application across Windows, Mac, and Web platforms. You will work through Engineering Managers to lead architectural decisions and help your team make sound technical choices to build applications, balancing innovation with platform stability. You will work closely with your Engineering Managers and Product counterparts to take ideas through design, implementation, validation, and release. You will plan investments for your organization, assign work to teams, and help them manage execution of projects. You will help foster a fast paced, collaborative environment to design, proto@type, implement, and ship features. You will partner across multiple product and platform teams in Microsoft and define reusable architectural patterns and techniques that enable consistent and intelligent user experiences at scale. You will mentor engineers and foster a culture of technical capabilities in architecture, performance profiling, and cross-platform design systems. You will attract and hire top engineering talent. You will provide engineering leadership to the team taking on technical issues inherent in building and delivering a consumer-grade application that powers cross-platform Signals intelligence and diagnosis missions.

Responsibilities
Guides partnership with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project manager, technical lead) to determine user requirements within and across teams.
Guides teams and leads identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
Optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment.
Guides team to drive multiple group's project plans, release plans, and work items in coordination with appropriate stakeholders.
Guides team and monitors other engineers across product lines, working on-call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.
Oversees product development and ensures products are scaled according to customer requirements, implementing appropriate techniques to address scaling and performance objectives.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
OR equivalent experience.

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
Microsoft Cloud Background Check : This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
OR equivalent experience.
4+ years people management experience.

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
