The Helena College Nursing Programs offer practical and registered nursing degrees. The Nursing Instructor position is a permanent, tenure-track position on an academic year contract working with the Nursing Faculty team and under the direction of the Director of Nursing.
Faculty members in nursing are professional educators with the specific responsibility of providing a quality education for the nursing students. Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
This Faculty position reports to the Director of Nursing and will be responsible for teaching 30 credits in the academic year.
This position will be responsible for:
Classroom teaching and clinical teaching oversight
Course preparation, remaining current in the area of expertise, and updating course content when appropriate to reflect the current knowledge in the discipline.
Developing, implementing, and reviewing -- at least annually -- an effective learning process that incorporates appropriate methodology, technology, and other tools
Working in partnership with the Director of Nursing through a formal system of evaluation of instruction, to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement in the instructional process and identify professional development activities that will lead to effective student learning.
Maintaining an appropriate schedule to allow for student access and inquiry.
Working in partnership with student services personnel on student advising, orientation, recruitment, and accessibility.
Participating in necessary institutional functions such as, but not limited to, college committees, mentoring activities, support in advisory boards and graduation events
Demonstration of effective use of adult learning principles and a variety of teaching methods to enhance understanding, including lecture, group discussions, simulations, skills activities, case studies, simulations, video recordings, and exploration of AI resources, etc.
Other professional responsibilities as assigned.
This position does not supervise other employees. This position may serve as a mentor or faculty resource to newly hired faculty, adjunct faculty, or clinical instructors. Faculty have autonomy and decision-making authority for course resources, content, delivery methods and teaching methods within approved curricular content. Collaborative discussion and evaluation of learning outcomes with the Nursing Faculty team and Director is an expected part of this role.
Minimum Qualifications
BSN required. MSN required or current enrollment in a Master of Science in Nursing program required.
Current, unencumbered RN license with the State of Montana required by start date.
Minimum of one year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience required.
Must be able to work lawfully in the United States. This position is not eligible for VISA sponsorship
Preferred
Additional acute care hospital nursing experience preferred.
Experience teaching in higher education preferred.
Familiarity with online learning platforms preferred (Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard, etc.)
Additional Information
Work Schedule: Full time Academic Year position (10 months). Monday through Friday, with rare Saturday hours for special events. Working hours may be needed between the hours of 8am and 6pm.
