Responsibilities*
Environmental Law and Sustainability Clinic: Provide administrative support to the director of the Environmental Law and Sustainability Clinic including preparing class materials, maintaining Canvas sites, managing the client intake process, answering phones and responding to general inquiries, processing and tracking clinic mail and email correspondence, submitting legal filings, managing clinic files and databases, managing calendars, handling financial matters on behalf of the clinic and generally supporting the daily operations of the ELSC. Additionally, at the start of each semester help onboard and train incoming students on office procedures, case management, use of equipment, and more.
General Administrative Support: Under general direction from the Business Administrator, provide administrative support to the department including but not limited to answering the main clinics phone line and routing calls as appropriate, sorting clinic mail, managing clinic car maintenance, ordering food for clinic faculty meetings, maintaining and ordering supplies for clinic printers, and assisting with department events as needed. Provide backup coverage to the Business Administrator when requested.
Digital Academic Initiatives: Provide administrative support to the director of Digital Academic Initiatives including preparing class materials, maintaining Canvas sites, assisting with graduate and undergraduate research students, managing calendar, making room arrangements for various workshops and presentations, and financial reconciliation.
Classroom Support (non-clinic): Serve as administrative support for clinical faculty when they teach non-clinical classes, including preparing course materials, maintaining Canvas sites, document editing and proofreading, and in-classroom support as requested.
Seasonal/Periodic Clinic and Program Administrative Support: Provide seasonal (spring/summer) administrative support to the INHR Geneva program and assistance with the Bergstrom Fellowship Program. Cross-train with the administrators of the MLaw clinics to provide backup coverage to those clinics as requested.
Required Qualifications*
High school diploma and at least four years of administrative support experience
Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and Adobe Acrobat
Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new computer software and technologies
Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
Must be able to handle highly confidential information and sensitive matters with tact and discretion
Ability to multitask, exercise initiative, and prioritize and balance multiple concurrent assignments and deadlines
Must be able to work effectively with a diverse group of colleagues, faculty, staff, students, clients, and visitors
Demonstrated ability to show sound judgment and work independently, as well as the ability to work on a team in a professional and collaborative manner
Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail
Exemplary customer service skills
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time.
Desired Qualifications*
Associate's or Bachelor's degree
Experience with M-Pathways systems, Canvas, CLIO, Dropbox and Emburse
Knowledge of University of Michigan policies and procedures
Knowledge of or experience working in a law office or legal clinic
