NOTE: These vacancies are being announced under two job classifications: Engineer Senior and Engineering Specialist Senior. The classification level of the position will be determined based on the qualifications of the selected applicant.
This opportunity will allow the employee to have an impact on the safety of Minnesota communities and their environments. To provide technical expertise and conduct inspections/investigations regarding Minnesota's natural gas and hazardous liquid pipeline infrastructure pursuant to Minnesota Statute 299F56- .641 and 299J; and the Minnesota Office of Pipeline Safety's annual inspection program. Educate clientele and conduct damage investigations regarding Minnesota's underground utility damage prevention laws under Minnesota Statute 216D.
*Employees may telework up to 50%, depending on the position and the needs of division.

Minimum Qualifications
Engineering Specialist Senior
Bachelor of Science Degree and (2) years of experience with the operations, maintenance, construction or emergency response of natural gas or hazardous liquid pipelines or regulatory experience, OR (6) years of experience with the operations, maintenance, construction or emergency response of natural gas or hazardous liquid pipelines.
Experience should include the following:
Must reside within Minnesota and 1 hour commute of St. Paul office.
Ability to travel overnight up to 30% of time.
Participate in a weekly On-Call rotation for receiving after-hours emergency notifications.
Advanced technical skills, a basic understanding of policymaking, be cognizant of representing the public in all areas of safety and command a minimum level of respect from our clientele.
Practical experience, which demonstrates a basic knowledge of applicable pipeline operations, technology, and safety.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to work cooperatively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and underserved communities.
Engineer Senior
Bachelor of Science degree and licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Minnesota.
Experience should include the following:
Must reside within Minnesota and 1 hour commute of St. Paul office.
Ability to travel overnight up to 30% of time.
Participate in a weekly On-Call rotation for receiving after-hours emergency notifications.
Knowledge of theoretical engineering and practical engineering experience.
Ability to evaluate conditions and conversations with persons and organizations with diverse agendas, experience, education and goals, and remain capable of representing the positions of MNOPS with guidance from supervisor as required.
Preferred Qualifications
Regulatory experience performing inspection, investigation, and enforcement activities.
Experience interpreting and applying state and federal laws.
Knowledge of regulatory requirements of 49 CFR Parts 190, 191, 192, 193 & 195.
Knowledge of regulatory requirements of Minnesota State Statute MS216D.
Recent field experience such as pipeline operations, pipeline inspector or other field work involving the construction, operations, maintenance, repair and safety of natural gas and hazardous liquid pipelines.
Experience with project management and dealing with multiple priorities.
Physical Requirements
Must have the ability to learn all aspects of this position which will include the ability to walk on uneven terrain, quickly exit unsafe areas, visually assess objects, able to distinguish primary and secondary warning sounds, lift/carry 20 pounds and climb ladder steps and sit for extended periods with pushing/pulling of arm and/or leg controls.
