We are looking for a dedicated Staff Accountant to join a stable and well-established non-profit organization in Washington, DC. You will collaborate with a skilled and experienced team under the guidance of an exceptional manager, handling both detailed day-to-day accounting tasks as well as supporting month-end and year-end financial close processes. Additional responsibilities for the Staff Accountant will include helping to prepare financial statements according to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), as well as related journal entries and account reconciliations. The Staff Accountant will participate in financial close procedures, audits as well as the preparation of the budget. The Staff Accountant will be expected to stay current with changes in accounting standards and look for process efficiencies as they perform their work.

Responsibilities:

Process invoices efficiently and ensure accurate vendor file maintenance.

Collaborate with vendors, contractors, and invoice approvers to address and resolve inquiries or discrepancies.

Oversee expense report submissions, ensuring compliance with internal policies.

Document and deposit cash and check receipts promptly and accurately.

Assist in preparing state and federal filings and contribute to the annual audit process.

Prepare financial statements in accordance with GAAP, including journal entries and account reconciliations.

Participate in month-end and year-end close procedures, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

Support the budgeting process and assist with audits to maintain financial compliance.

Stay updated on changes in accounting standards and identify opportunities for process improvements.

Utilize financial software tools such as Excel for tasks involving VLOOKUPs and pivot tables

Your base pay will depend on your skills, experience and training, knowledge, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, with experience in VLOOKUPs and pivot tables.

Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering excellent customer service.

Proven ability to work effectively within a team and manage multiple priorities.

Experience with general ledger accounting, journal entries, and account reconciliations.

Familiarity with expense management systems such as Concur Expense.
