Qualification standards for the Supervisory Recreation Therapist are outlined in VA Handbook 5005, Part II Appendix G60, Recreation and Creative Arts Therapist GS-0638. These qualifications include U.S. citizenship, bachelors or higher degree in Recreation Therapy from an accredited institution, appropriate experience, and mandatory professional certification as CTRS by NCTRC. A Supervisory Recreation Therapist who fails to maintain the required certification and/or registration must be removed from the occupation, which may result in termination of employment.
