Summary The Social Work Program Coordinator provides administrative and clinical leadership for the Mental Health Intensive Case Management (MHICM) and Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center (PRRC) programs, ensuring recovery-oriented, high-quality mental health services for Veterans. The Program Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring high-quality psychosocial treatment, compliance with national reporting requirements, and alignment with VA's Recovery Model. Duties include but are no limited to: Provides administrative and clinical oversight for MHICM and PRRC programs, ensuring efficient and recovery-oriented operations. Implements program policies, evaluates service quality, and develops improvement strategies. Supervises social work staff, establishes performance standards, provides feedback, and supports team mission execution. Advocates for and integrates the VA Recovery Model throughout both programs. Develops and monitors psychosocial treatment plans with interdisciplinary teams; determines use of VA and community resources. Provides independent clinical consultation and treatment recommendations for complex cases. Prepares required data reports for VACO, VISN, NEPEC, MHCC, and other governing bodies. Coordinates with Quality Management to prepare for accreditation reviews. Leads facility efforts to implement and evaluate recovery-oriented services; reports findings to the National Recovery Coordinator (NRC) and implements corrective actions. Conducts ongoing program evaluation through peer review, case conferences, and research-informed practices. Provides orientation, training, and staff development for Social Workers, interns, and interdisciplinary partners. Offers technical assistance to state, local, and private agencies and universities based on program review findings. Oversees operations across multiple campuses and community clinics, requiring independent decision-making and remote supervision. Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Grade Determinations: Supervisory Social Worker, GS-12: (1) Education and Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. (2) Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as Supervisory Social Workers must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. (3) Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines. Knowledge of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision, consultation, negotiation with other departments and quality improvement. Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services. Ability to provide staff training and development. Skill in interpersonal relationships in dealing with employees, team leaders, and managers. Preferred Experience: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or equivalent independent clinical licensure. Experience providing clinical and administrative oversight within mental health or recovery-oriented programs. Demonstrated ability to supervise social work staff and lead interdisciplinary teams. Experience developing and monitoring psychosocial treatment plans for Veterans with serious mental illness. Prior experience with program evaluation, performance improvement, and accreditation preparation. Experience working across multiple sites or within a complex health care system. Experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting data for local and national program offices.
