Care Plus Bergen, Inc., the tenant-operator of Bergen New Bridge Medical Center, New Jersey's largest hospital, is recruiting an Assistant General Counsel. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Chief Legal and Human Resources Officer, this person will serve as a key member of the hospital's Legal Department, supporting many areas of hospital operations. The Assistant General Counsel will handle a wide range of transactions, including policies. The Assistant General Counsel may be called up to assist other departments of the organization on strategic partnerships and both Human Resources and the Compliance department on internal investigations. Purchase and service contracts, information technology licenses, real estate leases, construction contracts and academic affiliations. The Assistant General Counsel will also support the hospital on fundraising, guardianship, involuntary and voluntary commitment matters, trust and estate matters, and with a variety of corporate filings. The Assistant General Counsel will also assist in reviewing clinical research agreements, analyzing data sharing issues and developing hospital standards.

This is a full-time position. There is the opportunity for a hybrid model, with at least three set days in the office, and with the understanding that the demands of the position may require in-office presence more frequently and that the hybrid program is a pilot program subject to change.

CANDIDATE PROFILE:

The ideal candidate will be dedicated attorney with at least three years of experience in either governmental, in house or private practice. The ideal candidate will have experience working with non-profit institutions and demonstrate working knowledge (commensurate with the candidate's years of practice) of the Federal anti-kickback statute (and EKRA), its associated regulations and safe harbors, and the Stark law, as well as an understanding of corporate practice prohibitions, HIPAA, antitrust and non-profit governance and operations.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills, as well as exceptional presence and judgment. It is imperative that the successful candidate have the intellect, vision and judgment to contribute across the organization. RESPONSIBILITIES:

Researches and interprets existing laws and regulations and anticipated changes to laws to guide informed decisions and reduce risk.

Prepares and reviews various agreements, contracts, and other legal documents.

As needed, represents the organization in litigation, arbitrations, negotiations, and other matters where legal counsel is required.

May coordinate with outside counsel to address issues requiring specialized legal input

Understanding of both Federal and State Health Care Laws, including Stark, Anti-Kickback, Codey and HIPAA.

Management of Paralegal and Clerks.

Other Duties:

Participate and present in multidisciplinary task forces, committees, and projects.

Continue professional development through reading, participation in seminars and optional training.

Keep informed on direction and happenings in the healthcare industry and within BNBMC.

Performs other related duties as required.

Position Qualifications:

2-5+ years of experience preferred.

Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited Law School required. Admission to New Jersey State and Federal Bar required

Familiarity with healthcare industry a plus.

Understands and adheres to the Medical Center's Code of Conduct and with the Medical Center's Mission, Vision, and Values Statements

Familiarity with Microsoft Office software applications.

Familiarity with implementing and maintaining applications.

Good organizational, oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills.

Proficient in English.

Microsoft Office skills.

Basic computer skills.

Education:

Bachelor's Degree Required

Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited Law School required.
