Power Plant Manager

The Power Plant Manager is responsible for the operation, maintenance,
and oversight of the power plant and associated systems, ensuring a
safe, reliable, and energy-efficient environment. The Power Plant
Manager assists the Director of Facilities & Engineering in the
operation of the power plant and equipment within acceptable
environmental compliance limits. Ensures that the safety standards as
determined by the Department of Higher Education, Department of Capital
Asset Maintenance and Management (DCAMM) and other State entities are
met. Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Plant Operations: o Operate and
monitor boilers, generators, and other power plant equipment. o Maintain
optimal efficiency and safety of the power plant systems. o These
systems include high pressure steam, condensate and associated systems
as assigned o Conduct regular inspections and document operational data.
o Ensure the generator is properly functioning. 2. Maintenance and
Repairs: o Responsible for ordering fuel oil, chemicals and supplies for
plant and mechanical room systems. o Diagnose and repair mechanical,
electrical, and pneumatic equipment as needed. o Coordinate with vendors
and contractors for specialized repairs or upgrades. 3. Compliance and
Safety: o Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations, including
the Department of Labor. October 2025 o Schedules and oversees the
annual and semi-annual inspections for pressure vessels and additional
state and federal requirements. This includes scheduling inspections and
working with state agencies. o Maintain proper records for inspections,
certifications, and repairs. o Ensure compliance with environmental and
emissions standards. 4. Emergency Response: o Respond promptly to
equipment failures o Participate in drills and maintain readiness for
emergency situations. 5. Documentation and Reporting: o Maintain
accurate records of daily operations, maintenance activities, and system
performance. o Provide regular reports to supervisors and recommend
improvements or upgrades. 6. Supervising: o Manages the Utility Plant
Operators roles. 7. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: 35
years of experience in steam plant or utility plant operations,
including at least 3 years as an operating engineer. Current
Massachusetts Second Class or higher Stationary Engineers License
(required). Proven supervisory or lead experience with plant staff or
maintenance personnel. Strong technical, mechanical, and problem-solving
skills. Preferred Qualifications Bachelors degree in mechanical
engineering or a related field or equivalent combination of licensing
and hands-on management experience. Experience supervising a three-shift
power plant operation. Working Conditions: The position is primarily
located within the power plant, with occasional work in other facilities
across the site. This role requires on-call availability, including
evenings, weekends, and holidays. Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10
pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force
frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move
objects, including the human body. October 2025 The worker is subject to
inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but
not necessarily from temperature changes. The worker is subject to both
inside and outside environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and
outside. Physical Requirements: Climbing: Ascending or descending
stairs, ramps, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
Body agility is emphasized. Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a
rest on knee or knees. Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward
by bending leg and spine. Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any
direction. Standing/Sitting: Particularly for sustained periods of time.
