A well-established organization in Hartford is seeking a strategic and hands-on Accounting Manager to oversee its core financial operations. Reporting directly to the VP of Finance, you'll lead a team of five and play a key role in driving accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement across all accounting functions. This is a high-impact leadership role with visibility across departments and direct influence on organizational success.

?? What You'll Do

Manage daily accounting operations including payroll, AP/AR, general ledger, and financial close cycles

Develop and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls

Oversee payroll processing and timekeeping systems, ensuring full compliance with regulations

Serve as the primary liaison with payroll vendors, including wage garnishment coordination

Review and approve cost allocations, depreciation schedules, and accrual entries

Prepare and reconcile payroll journal entries using third-party provider data

Stay current on payroll laws and ensure timely updates to practices and systems

Deliver financial insights and reporting to leadership to support strategic decisions

Hire, train, and mentor accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team

Continuously evaluate and improve accounting systems and workflows for efficiency and accuracy

?? What You Bring

Strong command of GAAP and core accounting principles

Proven experience managing accounting teams in dynamic environments

Hands-on expertise in payroll processing and compliance

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field

Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in financial software platforms

Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills

?? Preferred Qualifications

Experience with budgeting, auditing, and cost allocation

Familiarity with accounting software platforms (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage)

Knowledge of federal and state funding regulations

Experience leading payroll system transitions

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hartford, CT.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $29.67 - $35.22/hr.
