This position Leads a crew of transportation maintenance technicians and equipment operators performing skilled transportation maintenance activities. Reports to a maintenance section supervisor and assists in administration of the maintenance section. The Work requires responding to emergency notification on an as needed basis. The Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Essential Duties:Assists during accidents and emergency weather situations to sand bridges and roads and put up warning signs and organize response of crews.Assists in administration of the maintenance section.Assists work performed by maintenance contractors.Maintains records on materials and equipment used and employee time sheets.Monitors materials testing and inventory of roadway maintenance materials.Operates light and heavy equipment.Oversees contract workers and coordinates applicable activities.Oversees the work of designated maintenance inspectors and sign technicians.Performs some maintenance and repair on equipment and trains crew members on the use of equipment.Serves as a lead worker by scheduling daily work assignments; serving as a resource for complex questions and troubleshooting of problems; presenting operational updates to the supervisor; providing input on team members career conversations; and approving leave requests to ensure operational coverage with surveying-related work.Estimates and gathers materials and equipment necessary to complete assignments.Inspects roads while en route to and from job site and reports problems to supervisors.Inspects Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
