POSITION PURPOSE:
To provide efficient, quality services on the MSUM campus so that academic programming can take place in a clean and safe environment. As determined by management of MSUM this position is Essential during weather and other emergency periods as declared by the Commissioner of Employee Relations or the University President.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibility #1: Clean restrooms/locker rooms so that they are maintained in a sanitary, hygienic condition.
Tasks:
A. Empty and clean trash cans and sanitary receptacles, replacing bags as needed.
B. Clean and disinfect sinks, mirrors, paper and soap dispensers, urinals and toilets.
C. Refill toilet paper, paper towel and soap dispensers as needed.
D. Spot clean ceilings, walls, light switches, handles, doorknobs and partitions.
E. Sweep, scrub or mop and disinfect floors.
F. Pressure wash weekly.
G. Monitor floor drains daily, adding water as needed to prevent sewer gas.
Responsibility #2: Clean offices, classrooms, hallways, office corridors, stairways, entrances, and public lounges.
Tasks:
A. Empty and clean trash cans, replacing bags as needed.
B. Vacuum, sweep, scrub or mop floors.
C. Spot clean carpets daily.
D. Dust and spot clean tabletops, desktops, countertops, windowsills, radiator tops, etc. Clean whiteboards and blackboards. Spot clean walls paying special attention to areas around trash cans. Spot clean interior windows. Clean doors and doorframes.
E. Dust, sweep and mop stairways.
F. Clean and disinfect water fountains.
G. Remove trash on grounds surrounding building exterior, special attention paid to entryways and area around dumpsters.
Responsibility #3: Monitor equipment, light fixtures and general building conditions to ensure all are in safe working order.
Tasks:
A. Check equipment daily. Determine if maintenance is needed. Repair if necessary and able.
B. Enter notes in Preventative Maintenance System - SharePoint/FMX. Inform supervisors of actions.
C. Work with supervisor to determine needed parts and their part numbers.
D. Check FMX daily. Complete tasks as assigned. Make notes as applicable and resolve tasks.
E. Replace light bulbs as needed.
F. Create work orders for issues needing others attention or equipment repairs.
Responsibility #4: Perform restorative tasks throughout the year so that areas are maintained in a safe and clean fashion.
Tasks:
A. Extract carpets.
B. Scrub/strip refinish floors.
C. Clean light fixtures, vents, desktops.
D. Clean walls and windows.
E. Ensure that recyclables are maintained in an orderly fashion, empty as directed.
F. Perform special tasks as determined by supervisors.
Responsibility #5: Adhere to all safety regulations defined by the City, Federal, State and University codes.
Tasks:
A. Maintain secularity as needed.
B. Maintain safety and environmental rules and regulations.
C. Read and understand Safety Data Sheets.
D. Complete yearly safety training as assigned.
Responsibility #6: Perform other related GMW duties when needed.
Tasks:
A. Check email, EMS, and work orders on a daily basis.
B. Manage inventory and supplies at a consistent level. Order supplies as needed /weekly using SharePoint.
C. Clean, shovel and de-ice all building entries in work areas as needed or directed. Record work performed on Entrance log each time work is done. Logs turned into supervisor annually.
D. Assist with special tasks as assigned, including the movement of furniture, delivery of supplies & equipment and setups and teardowns for campus activities.
E. Assist in covering other areas as determined through crossover assignments or as assigned by supervisors.
F. Understand job functions and how the position relates to achieving department and institution goals.
Minimum Qualifications:
Technical and supervisory skills are necessary to perform competently in this position. Human relation skills must be considered a top priority because of daily contact with faculty, students and staff. The ability to follow oral and written instruction is a necessity. Employees must be able to read and comprehend Safety Data Sheets and follow safe handling, storage, transportation, and disposal of all cleaning materials. The primary skill in this position involves determining cleaning materials and using them effectively. They must also have the ability to perform minor repairs to buildings and equipment. Have ability to use an email system.
Preferred Qualification:
Employees must operate equipment in a manner consistent with manufacturer's instructions, equipment includes (but is not limited to) buffers, scrubbers, sweepers, burnishers, vacuum cleaners and extractors.
Other Requirements:
Incumbent must be able to perform repetitive bending and/or twisting, reaching overhead, lift up to 50 pounds, kneel frequently, sweep and mop and work in enclosed areas, be able to work on ladders/scaffolding. Incumbent must be in good physical health and endurance.
