About this Job
The purpose of the Louisiana Physical Therapy Board is to protect the public health, safety, and welfare, and to provide for state administrative control, supervision, licensing, and regulation of the practice of physical therapy in Louisiana.

Minimum Qualifications
Completion of an approved Paralegal or Legal Assistant program approved by the American Bar Association (ABA), or at an accredited college or university; OR
Possession of a Certified Paralegal (CP) certification issued by the National Association of Legal Assistants, Inc.; OR
A Juris Doctorate.
NOTE:
Disbarred attorneys and those who have permanently resigned from the practice of law in lieu of discipline may not be hired in any position in connection with the practice of law. Suspended attorneys or an attorney transferred to disability inactive status during the period of suspension may not be hired in any position in connection with the practice of law unless such hiring is first preceded by the submission of a fully executed registration statement to the Office of Disciplinary Counsel, on a registration form provided by the Louisiana Disciplinary Board and approved by the Louisiana Supreme Court. See Rule 5.5(e)(1) of the Louisiana Rules of Professional Conduct; In Re Davenport, 2021-01371 (La. 11/3/21) and 326 So.3d 882; In re Sharp, 2012- 2463 (La. 1/11/13), 106 So.3d 105. The hiring agency is responsible for conducting the necessary background checks prior to appointment.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Paralegal 1 is primarily responsible for providing a variety of legal tasks for the investigative department of the agency at the entry level of training series.
60% Legal tasks for the investigative department
Conducts legal research as an aid to contracted attorneys and the Executive Director in finding laws and court decisions.
Prepares draft documents relative to investigations and disciplinary proceedings; drafts notices for investigations using template forms; and affixes consent orders for compliance officer and attorney to review using template forms.
Assists contracted attorneys, the Executive Director and the contracted investigators with interviewing potential witnesses related to investigations and disciplinary cases.
Searches, examines, and collects authorities on points of law in connection with the preparation of rule changes and disciplinary cases
Composes briefs, memoranda, and other correspondence on legal matters affecting a department.
Collects delinquent payments through personal contact with debtors by notice letters and as the main point of contact with the Office of Debt Recovery. · Indexes legal opinions; upkeep of electronic legal library.
20% Admin work
Receives and distributes mail.QuickBooks entry/general data entry. · Assists staff in routine admin tasks, including mailing. · Coordinates travel for staff, board members, and advisory committee members. · Receives and distributes office supplies.
Serves as receptionist for the office. · Completes annual audit of licensure files; digitizes licensure files.
Prepares meeting rooms for all meetings..
10% Board Meeting
Prepares the boardroom for in-person meetings.
Coordinate meal menu and organize meal delivery.
10% Additional Work as Needed, as directed by the Executive Director
